This wikiHow teaches you how to change one or both of the language input areas on Google Translate.

Method 1
Method 1 of 2:

On Mobile

  1. It's a blue and white app with a white "G" on the left of it.
  2. The language on the left side of the screen is the language you would like to translate a word or phrase from, and the language on the right side displays the language you would like your word or phrase translated to.
    • If you're changing the language input field, you'll have an option to select Detect language , which is a feature that analyzes your input text and chooses the most appropriate language. This is useful if you want to translate a word or phrase and you aren't sure what language it is in.

  3. You should see a menu with languages appear; selecting a language from here will apply it to its related field.
    • You may need to scroll down to find the language you want.
    • You may also tap the two opposite-facing arrows at the top of the page to reverse the output and input fields.
    • Languages with a downward-facing arrow next to them have an offline translation file available.

Method 2 of 2:

On Desktop

  1. It's at http://translate.google.com/ .
  2. The set of languages and the window on the left side of the page is the area where you enter a word or phrase, while the window on the right side is where the translation appears.
  3. This button is to the right of the right-most language option above one of the windows.
  4. You should see a drop-down window with over 100 languages listed; clicking one will apply it to your selected window.
    • You can repeat this process for the other window if the default options on this page are both unsuited to your needs.
    • Clicking the opposite-facing arrows above the input field will switch the languages.
    • You can also click Detect Language for input text to allow Google Translate to attempt to determine the language.

How do I change the voice to an English man?
    Community Answer
There is no option. You can use a text-to-speech service. Just type what you want it to say, pick your voice, and hit play. It may take a little bit of time for it to generate the voice, but it will have the same effect.
