I was creating a new article in Advanced mode and I wanted to tell you about my experience. It was confusing and technically challeging, not like it was before the newest design. Problem #1 . I had difficult time to insert the images. It looked as if they were inserted because I had "success … " message but when I previewed the article there were NO images, none at all. It took me a few attemps to finally see the images in the article. It’s time consuming, frustrating and annoying. Before the latest redesign I COULD see the images RIGHT AWAY as soon as I inserted them. Problem #2 . Also in Advanced mode I wanted to add the “Related wikiHows” section. I clicked on Edit (on toolbar) then Manage wikiHows option and all I got was an error message “bad target”. So, it didn’t work. Only after I published, went to Editing mode I was able to add the Related wikiHows. Again it’s time confusing an rather annoying. Question: Doesn’t this tool (to add a section) work in Advanced mode??? P.S. I created 2 new articles last couple days and had exactly the same experience, I am describing, WITH BOTH.

@Laura7491 with the advanced editor, you create your own sections and subsections with:

  • === Headings wikimarkup ===
  • ==== Subheadings wikimarkup ====
    Don’t forget to put the magic word (__Parts__ or __Methods__) as the last thing in the article (or before the interwikis, if any). The image adder and Manage Related wikiHows tools worked for me, but there was a slight delay before the image appeared in the Preview (a known bug). Just keep refreshing the Preview pane until it shows. If you have the “Show edit toolbar (JavaScript)” option checked under the Editing tab in My Preferences, you will be able to add images and weave links by clicking on the last two icons on the right of that bar. Also, you can search for relateds and add each article link manually under the heading == Related wikiHows ==.

I’ve had that image problem while recreating an article yesterday. The images won’t show up in the preview, and when I click on them to enlarge them it shows the 404 Error message ( this is all in preview mode). But strangely however they worked fine when I published the article.

Hi @Serendipitee … yes , I remember about “methods” and “parts”. I just did not need them in these articles. =)) Now, I did not know about the known delayed image display bug … It seems like it took a WHOLE LOT longer to me than for you. I took me a huge delay - 3-4 attempts to refresh for EACH image. Needless to say how annoying and time consuming it was. I do have a toolbar on the top displayed and I did use it for inserting images. Well, Ron, “Related” did not work for me from Advanced Editor. I am not sure what you mean be searching manually (quoting you): Also, you can search for relateds and add each article link manually under the heading == Related wikiHows ==. I usually added a section from those offered at the bottom of editing window and went from there. It used to be a very straighforward process. Why they made it more complicated now???

Thank you @HelperT2895 … well that’s the whole point - to be able to PREVIEW the article with the images PRIOR to publishing. This is insane. It was sooooooooooooo time consuming to keep refreshing a page , like 3-4 times for EACH image I inserted. It’s nuts. LOL They better fix this Preview thing. How about if we inserted a wrong image for the wrong step, etc. and we are unable to preview?? We are humans! We should be able to have a clean cut article before publishing. Also, I forgot to mention that yesterday it inserted a wrong image into article. I did highlight the right one that I created, from my Pictures … I know that 100% it was a right one, but a different image that was nothing to do with mine has been inserted… :(( What a pain in the neck… LOLOL

@Laura7491 By adding relateds manually, I meant that you can do a search in a separate tab using the same keywords you would use in the “Add Relateds” tool and copy/paste the ones you select (one at a time). Are you trying to use the add relateds tool you select from the drop-down list that appears when you hover over “Edit” in the green wikiHow bar? That is what I thought you were talking about and that is the tool I used for testing the addition of relateds. It worked fine for me.

Hi @Serendipitee again …:slight_smile:You mean I have to open another browser and search for Related there, and then paste a link to my article, correct? Yes, I tried to use Edit tool from a green toolbar at the top. You are correct. I did not see the menu of the available sections that is usually located at the bottom of Editing screen. I am too lazy to do a screenshot … But all the sections used to be available to add to the article. I just had to tick an appropriae box and it used to pop up in the article. No brainer. *** I saw them in Guided mode but not in Advanced *** Why is Advanced being discriminated? LOL . Looks like this: Add Optional Sections Things You’ll Need - Related wikiHows -Sources and Citations - Food Ingredients

@Laura7491 , The advanced editor is for those who know the codes and prefer the extra flexibility it affords. If you prefer the guided editor, use it. As @Ttrimm pointed out, you use a step as a placeholder for a section heading, then put the === in later. This allows you to use the guided editor for article creation andadding substantially to existing multi-sectioned articles. I am sure that you will get used to the Advanced editor, but only if you use it.

Hi, @Serendipitee , yeah, I think you’re right, I should use the guided editor. Perhaps I will have less troubles with it. But the images inserting process is still a pain in the neck. LOL Thanks, Ron!! =)) P.S. BTW - is it me , or the Forum is very slow to access??? It took “forever” to get to your post. =(

On occasion the forums are VERY slow. Not sure why, though.

Thank you, @IsabelleZita . Never know if it’s my Firefox or wiki acting up. LOL IsabelleZita and @Serendipitee , just to let you know that I changed the edit preference to “Guided” on my profile and saw all that options I mentioned above. Created a new article again and had exactly the same problem with the image. Last step’s image just too stubborn and NEVER shows up, ever (made 4 attempts already!). It IS important to show that image because it supports the explanation!!! I already told to BR and Ttrimm about it. They are trying to re-insert the image, but no luck yet. What a pain in the neck. LOL I hope the engineers fix this bug soon. Very annoying problem!
