@JackHerrick , @Krystle , and all others this may concern. I do not know how good this idea is, but if I may make a suggestion…? I realized recently, through the RCP tool, I have greatly increased my spelling, grammer, and eye for detail when checking my own reports and such. This gave me a thought. Surely others have had this happen! Why not, then, advertise wH as a homeschooling helper for highschoolers as well? Or, if not for homeschoolers, for anyone in general who wants to get better at said attributes? I personally think, however, advertising to homeschoolers would eventually get a lot of support… Though I do not know how the bigger corporations and school facilities would like this. Also, not meaning to offend anyone, but homeschoolers, for various reasons, often seem to be brighter than public schooled kids (Not sure about private schooled) and more polite, so that would help minimize all the copyeditting and such from new users… Is this a good idea? I would love feedback!

By the way, I believe you once had this on our profile, @maluniu or that you had learned a ton just through RCP…?

I’ve actually never increased my spelling and grammar through RC. It’s been through public school and college experience.

Oh, ok… I thought I saw something about it helping you… Was it Spanish, perhapa…?

The knowledge comes from a huuuugggeeeeee list of various websites and a translator I use – I just do background work; I don’t edit the articles in a “normal” way. But yeah… it’s basically the drive that I have to help out the different language wikiHows to increase my “single-word” vocabulary, lol.

Spelling and grammar can be greatly benefit from patrolling, yes… except when these high schoolers and homeschoolers type like this: “lol so did you hear about that rule 4 wikihow being curriclm”. It drives me absolutely nuts, but since wikiHow wasn’t created to be educational in that way, I don’t think it would quite go as planned.:frowning:I have learned quite a bit from wikiHow as well, but some people, whether public, private, or home schooled, just don’t want everything to connect to education, you know? -MushyKetchup

Oh, ok, @Maluniu :3 I do not believe I know of any homeschoolers who would say things like that, but I do see your concern, MushyKetchup. Have you actually seen people say that…?

Well, I think it actually made my grammar and punctuation worse. In fact, my writing has gotten easier than ever.

Was about to create another thread like this. I think we should put advertisement on TVs. Like a girl say How to Bake cakes and a boy suggest wikiHow

Considering the fact that we remove all adds for users who are logged in… and we give the option for anon users to hide adds… I don’t think that making an advert for wikiHow is going to gain much traction. We are generally in the top 10 web results on most internet ‘How do I…?’ searches… so why would we need to spend $$ on TV adverts attracting people who aren’t using the internet to search for answers in the first place? Think about it. Our “target audience” is internet users… and we’re clearly reaching them already.

What would be nice is if users who have profiles on wikiHow could order “wikiHow” shirts and cups and stuff. Just to brag in our offices or where ever that we are part of the world wide team of volunteers.

@P.Schutte I don’t know how often this is, but I believe if you make yourself noticed with your contributions, wikiHow will offer you a token of appreciation which could be either a shirt or USB flash drive. @Krystle reached out to me and sent me a shirt over a year ago, but like I said, I’m not sure how often this happens.

wikiHow swag gets distributed to active users around Christmas time and at wikiHow meetups. Or… you could try this… http://www.wikihow.com/Design-Your-Own-T-Shirt or… This? http://www.wikihow.com/Stencil-Fabric

Good idea, but I agree with LW I think it would be nice if we could buy things, though. Maybe there be special shirts for certian achievments that must be sent to you by or through an admin, but then there be other shirts available to the public. Do you see what I mean?

@Nate848 , I think this is an interesting idea. I’ve learned a ton patrolling and editing wikiHow. I think the things you learn here is one of the core reasons so many people find wiki editing attractive. IN addition, wikiHow has a great history with homeschooled high school students. Some of our younger admins are homeschooled. They continue to amaze and inspire me with their intelligence, maturity, and kindness. At some future point, I’d like to have wikiHow invest more resources in getting the word out there. Today is probably not that day, but I will keep this idea for later down the road.

I was unaware there were many homeschoolers on wH, @JackHerrick . Ok though. Thankyou for considering this idea:slight_smile:

I _do_ like the idea of being able to purchase wikiHow related swag… I wear my wikiHow Tee anywhere except work (and church!)… and end up in many interesting and fun conversations as a result.

I think that we should sell items everywhere in the. Even here in India!

Advertising is the most important thing for any business and should have all the data and research carefully to invest in market for getting your brand famous and profitable. Else, you may lose your money in starting without money for future.

Ever meet other wikihowians by wearing the shirt?

I was thinking of an online store… Are you suggesting small outlets in various places…?

I see what you are saying…
