I am pleased to announce that the Answer Questions Contest is now underway. This will be the forum thread where we will coordinate the contest, and post messages of encouragement. Also, progress updates will be posted here.

The goal of this contest is to work together to answer 3,000 questions by November 2nd. Please check out the contest page for more information. If you want to dive right in, you can use the Answer Questions tool , or you can navigate directly to the Community Q&A section on articles and answer questions there.

If you are participating, please remember to add your name to the participants list , and feel free to add {{ Answer Questions Contest Participant }} to your user page if you want to. If anybody has any questions, feel free to post them here.

Thanks R2.I have a question, the “Answer questions contest” is it only about answering article requests or also answering article questions. I am asking because I’m not ready to write an article yet.

It’s only about answer questions on articles. This contest is not about writing them.

Ok, thank you.

What do we have to do

The goal of this contest is to answer 3,000 questions this month. Participation is optional, but to help out, you can answer unanswered questions in the Community Q&A section of articles. To do this, you can navigate to the unanswered questions section of the Community Q&A section on articles and answer questions that way, or you can use the Answer Questions Tool . Whichever way you prefer, both of them will help us achieve our goal.

Yes, you can check the other thread for more details, but 3,000 definitely seems like an achievable goal. Last month, 2,529 questions were answered in 4 weeks, so 3,000 definitely appears to be in reach.

Oh I see, I’m sorry for the confusion. I’ve updated the thread to make it more clear that we are all working together to achieve this goal.

I’m looking forward to seeing how we go on this goal! I think we can do it - I’m going to look for some music questions I can answer:slight_smile:

(Which explains why when I arrived on Jayne’s user page the other day her answered questions stats magically changed to 4:smiley:

And why the header up-top changed!)

I may not be able to do much for this contest because of my very very busy schedules. I have an exam tomorrow,DAT,and many other dates…but I’ll try my best!

@JayneG

I was wondering, in the count, will you also be able to show how many duplicates were marked for deletion? On some articles, there are dupes x2 or x3 for numerous qs. It looks like maybe a site hiccup or restored backup caused mass duplications??

Interesting - I don’t think I can get that data, but I am curious if you noticed whether the articles with dups were articles starting with “C”? That would be a surefire way of knowing if it was to do with the recent database issue.

No, the articles and questions are from a range of beginning letters and are accessed through Random button. Is my journey through them recorded anywhere?

Where do ‘reports’ on Qs go? Because I made a number of corrections or additional info on Qs also, or saying why the answer is in error or incomplete.

I don’t think individual activity is logged when answering questions, but we do have logs for Q&A Patrol here (where answers go before going live).

I believe that reports go into the Fix Flagged Answers tool for review.

Hate to sidetrack, but that’s true. https://www.wikihow.com/Special:Log?type=fix_flagged_answers&user=&page=&wpdate=2020-12-31&tagfilter=

@JayneG and @EpcotMagic , flagged answers go into the fix flagged answers tool, but flagged unanswered questions do not. If you flag an unanswered question, then it will save that flag in a database somewhere, and then if it gets flagged again, then the question will be deleted. I don’t think this is a good system though, since it can allow bad questions to stay, and it can be abused rather easily. I think that sending them to the fix flagged answers tool as well would be a better solution.

I wish on the Article page, for unanswered but duplicated Qs, that it gave the same “menu” as on answered Qs (such as Copyediting, etc.). Then I could add “This is a duplicate” to all those. Then those Dupes would show up in the tool.

Hello everybody. I have an update on our progress. Last week, 734 questions were answered! That means that we have 2,266 more questions to go until we reach our goal! We can do it, let’s keep answering questions!
