Greeeeeeeeeeetings everyone! I have yet another proposed backlog tackling mission. https://www.wikihow.com/Category:Format
(or https://www.wikihow.com/Special:EditFinder/Format
for tool) Currently there are 525+ articles to be formatted. A little daunting but we’ve all seen what we can do when we band together for a common goal!
Sure, there are other backlogs (intro and cleanup for example) but I think formatting should be the most simple with most articles needing just a couple tweaks of wording or WikiCode. No rush or anything-- just figured I’d toss this out there and see if anybody else wanted to help out.

Yes, this would be rad to get through! If several folks are interested, I can always dig into the database and throw the Format titles into a spreedsheet, too - not sure if folks prefer category or spreadsheet format, but I’m happy to help if it’s the latter!
@Anna
I swear, you have an obsession with spreadsheets! You should def see somebody about that. Personally, I like the tool and the page but if it’s super easy to do I don’t imagine a spreadsheet could hurt! Might inspire more people as well.

Hah @InfernoTerra
I very much do! But it doesn’t matter to me which way it’s done - if the tool is what folks prefer, we can stick with that. For anyone interested, just chime in with what method you’re planning to use!
@Anna
In the format tool. Does it do anything if I remove the format tag in the editor and then hit ‘yes it’s appropriate to remove this tag’?
Also, @Anna
. Do we have an exact number on how many format articles are out there, or is 525 it?
Anna

@InfernoTerra
- if you already removed the tag, then clicking Yes shouldn’t do anything extra; just if you haven’t removed it yet.
I just had a look in the database, and it looks like 523. The Dash numbers can take a little bit to get up to speed, but as I look now, both seem aligned
@Anna
Ahh okay thanks! So, overall the dash numbers are accurate though? Okay!

More or less, yes! No promises on exact perfect match-ups all the time, but for the most part, should be good data
@Anna
, If memory serves there is a problem with the tool if you exit out as was mentioned in the article about the tool: https://www.wikihow.com/Use-the-Format-Greenhouse-on-wikiHow
I’ve pitched in multiple times years ago, but I let the backlog get the best of me, and ended up dropping it for other tools. Maybe I’ll head in sometime soon. For the most part, the tool sort-of-works to get the job done, but it does lose untouched articles if you exited out and “skips” the article the next time you go back into it at a later time, as it sits in the list untouched.

Oh, yeah, I don’t think the skips and exits will come right back to you in the queue, but you can find them in the category instead. If we get the count that low that it’s a big issue, that’ll actually be a pretty good problem for us to have, since it means we’ll have very few articles left to format ;)
Formatting isn’t only code fixes, it’s the wording and organization of the article as well.
@Batreeq
I know. That’s why I said “most articles needing just a couple tweaks of wording or WikiCode.” Some require far more but a lot just need verbs starting the steps, minor tweaks.

@ InfernoTerra
great idea Stephen. I’ll be pleased to work on that… @Anna
get the spreadsheet sorted!
Anna

Can do @Sarah
! If you’re the main person who likes a spreadsheet for this thing, I’ll just send you one via email you can poke into - if others prefer it, too, I can do a group one. So anyone else, chime in if you have a preference one way or the other

@Anna
, only do the spreadsheet if you have nothing else to do…you have other things to be spending your time on
Anna

Oh I definitely don’t mind doing it, @SarahB
! I just didn’t want to put a group sheet up if the majority of folks like working out of the tool, since feeling obligated to update the sheet might stop them from diving in there, instead. But I can always send a personal one, either way!
I’d suggest making a spreadsheet of what articles need what types of formatting (e.g. what needs actual format fixes and what needs rewording of steps), but I’m wondering if that might be more trouble than it’s worth?
