At some point soon (maybe even Tuesday) wikiHow engineer Jordan will roll out some improvements to the “thumbs up” feature. Here’s what will happen: 1. Per the requests from @Bbyrd009 here: http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/816/thumbs-up/ and others elsewhere we are offering more folks the ability to give a thumbs up. Before these changes the only place to give a thumbs up is in new style recent changes. With this change, it will also be possible to give thumbs up by going through old style RC or any diff page. So for example I could even go to this edit from 2007 and give it a thumbs up: http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Find-Easy-Money&diff=prev&oldid=1209325 So now when you are digging in page history for one reason or another, you can offer some praise for great edits of long ago. We will continue to look for other places we can add thumbs up too as well. 2. No more annoying talk page messages about “Thumbs Up”. Getting a thumbs up is great. But when you do a lot of great work, your talk page starts to look kind of monotonous: http://www.wikihow.com/User_talk:Flickety With these new changes, thumbs up notifications will appear via a notification message that doesn’t appear on your talk page:

How to Choose the Correct Type of Spur for Horse Riding - wikiHow

If you absolutely hate receiving any sort of praise, you can turn off all thumb up notifications in preferences. But please don’t because people really do like your work.:slight_smile:3. Since thumbs up can be given in places other than RC patrol, it’s now possible to get more than 1 thumbs up per edit. That said, for now, it’s hard to imagine getting more than 1 thumb for each edit. But watch this space for updates:slight_smile:4. The automatically generated profile stats on your user page will get changed from the boring display of all your recent edits (including minor edits, rollbacks, and other small edits) to the list of your recent thumbed up edits. This is good since it should theoretically be showing edits that you are most proud of.

I hope these updates help editors show their gratitude for the best work on wikiHow. After this launches, please try giving (and hopefully receiving) some thumbs up and let us know how we can make these tools better for you. And as always expect some bugs and unpleasant surprises while we iron out the rough edges.

Awesome… kind of dislike seeing random links/articles whereas I just added or reverted something to them.

Pretty cool…looking forward to seeing the enhancements.

Cool:slight_smile:- I’ll be sure to start giving more!

This is cool! Thanks for the heads-up:wink:

Woo-hoo! See the thumbs up on old RC… now I’m complete w/o Special:RC =]

Wow! Cool idea! Can’t wait to see it in action!

It’s now live. You may need to force refresh your browser and / or clear your cache to see it. I hope this helps you spread wikiLove. Let us know what you think.
