Hello everyone, I am in need of help. I am currently the legal gurdian of my niece that is 16 yrs old. I have been for the past 3 years. When I was given LGS of her I didn’t know she had sever problems as for example her being diagnosed with Bi-polar sever depression, split personality and it keeps on. Now, she was diagnosed while leaving with me (her mother wanted nothing to do with her) and her father is in Jail. I was and am the only person trying to do this all on my own. Well now for question I am trying to relinquish back my rights to her biological mother because unfortunatly I can handle this situation with my niece any further. I have two babies of my own to think about. She was placed in the a residential group home cause she needs the help and was refusing to live with me further because I was not letting her have her way.Now I have court on the 15th of this month and I found out through the group home coordinator that the mother is planing to take me to court for child support that she has paid me, for her daughter. I have provided for her, my niece. I am wondering if she’s even able to open a case against me for that. she is claiming that the 200 $ that she gives me every 2 weeks , i have taken it for me and my use only. The coordinator told me to try to pull up credit card purchases I have that i"ve used to buy my niece stuff. Just need to know PLEASE is there is any way she could open a case against me ??? I appriciate your help with all my heart, I really do… Thank you, concerned aunt.

i think the only way she could is if she paid you child support after the child has left your home and is in a group home. as long as she didn’t give you like 400.00 for the month at once andyou only kept her 2 weeks… she might be able to get the other 200.00 back… and if she did it would probly have to go the group home for her support there cause those places are not free. as long as you can come up with receipts for clothing, shoes and schooling outings stuf like that for every month you had her you should be fine. child support does not mean just buying stuff for the child… it also goes for rent, elec, gas, water, trash and food. if you don’t pay those you cant have a good place for the child to live. just have all your ducks in a row when you go in and if you don’t have them all ask for an extenstion to get all your records together.
