Hello my dear wikiHowians, Over the past couple of months, I’ve seen numerous people giving barnstars - Which is an awesome thing, and I was very honored to get two myself. A little advice, while it is awesome to get a Barnstar ( @Lewis Collard can tell you I was very excited), it is a big thing for you, and the person you give it to. For example, if I am two days old, and I give it to a brand new member, they don’t deserve it unless they have been working their butts off doing everything for 48 hours straight…Maybe. Please read these two articles. -------> http://www.wikihow.com/Award-a-wikiHow-User-a-Barnstar and http://www.wikihow.com/Earn-a-Barnstar-on-wikiHow _ “A Barnstar is the biggest award you can give to someone, and should only be given for truly incredible effort.”_I am not bashing the users who have gotten it, or the users who have been awarded it, I am saying please know it is a really serious thing - If a user who gives a barnstar without knowing what kind of award it reallyis, that’s not going to mean as much as it could if you’re more experienced and know more about the site. Take into account that it is the biggest honor/award you can get on wikiHow and please do not give them out freely. Instead, look at the user’s contributions, coach them (If needed), and wait to see them work more in the community. Thanks for reading my ¢00.02 - =) June Days fixed spelling - Teresa

I agree June Days. Anyone can give out Barn Stars? Or just NABers and Admins? A Barnstar is a Major award and should be presented to the ones who work hard and show major effort.

Anyone can. I’ve given one to Bob and Krystle, and I’m not a NAB/Admin.:wink:They really deserved it, I see their edits pretty much every day, and I know a lot about the community. =) June Days

Thanks for the answer! I recently saw a Barn Star (Not giving names) for doing exceptional work on the community dashboard.

^ Yes. But I believe the user earned it.

Please read what I said. " I am not bashing the users who have gotten it, or the users who have been awarded it, I am saying please know it is a really serious thing - If a user who gives a barnstar without knowing what kind of award it really is, that’s not going to mean as much as it could if you’re more experienced and know more about the site":wink:June Days

@june+days , have you ever felt that I might be entitled to one(or should have received one by now)?

^ Yes of course. You’re an awesome editor; I just haven’t seen your edits that much until a few months ago…Maybe even before then; but I have seen your awesome work.:wink:June Days

I agree, June (was thinking to make a thread about that). While patrolling, noticed the huge amount of giving Barnstars. Somenew editors doesn’t know that it’s a very huge award, so they give to any editor even when they doesn’t deserve it. So, here’s a good idea. If you think someone is doing a good job, but doesn’t *really* deserve a barnstar, write a personal message. Or , use a template. Talking about myself, I felt proud when Krystle told me about my amazing patrolling count:slight_smile:

Absolutely - this is a very important message. Barnstars are special, and they need to stay that way.

^ Glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks this. =) June Days

Just received my first Barnstar from JaylaMarie tonight. Copied the barnstar to userpage. Look down at the bottom of my page to find it. Despite her only being here for a few months, I know I’m valued here and my edits sure prove worthy enough to receive this one. Thank you JaylaMarie for thinking of me. June Days is coaching(she asked me if she could, and I granted her permission to) JaylaMarie, being she is so new here.

Yes. Barnstars shouldn’t be treated like templates.
