The community IRC used to be pretty popular for chatting, asking questions, etc. I think the userability of the whole thing threw off younger, newer members. There’s a relatively new way to chat that’s generally for gamers and niche hobbyists, if you don’t know it, called Discord. Basically, it’s a chat platform with the ability to have hundreds of members in an organized way, with administrators, calls, “titles”, custom emotes, and lots of other fun stuff all chatting under the same “roof”. I’ve been thinking for a bit, would anyone be interested in an unofficial Discord server to chat, ask questions, and maybe even redirect to new users who have a lot of questions? If so, I can absolutely organize one.

I used to use the IRC a ton to ask questions. +1 on the idea.
Sounds cool! I used to use IRC but rarely did. I’ve since lost interest in that.

Considering how heated things could get in IRC, I’m somewhat amused by a potential replacement for it being called a “Discord” server…
I offer a “qualified” yes to this idea. Full approval would depend heavily on how much control wikiHow has over users who are disruptive.

Yep- it would be unofficial for sure. I would be adding an appropriate amount of administrators (who are already admins on the wikiHow site) within the chat with the ability to kick, ban, delete, and mute users. In theory I think this could work, but in application I think it depends on how many people wind up joining.

I’m in for a Discord server! Discord is mostly for gaming, though. Slack might be another choice worth considering as well!
