There’s been a lot of discussion about coronavirus lately, and understandably so. This thread serves as the discussion space for those who want to talk about it, so that it can be concentrated in one area without spilling over into other threads.
Feel free to share your thoughts on the current state of things, but please be mindful of others’ feelings and avoid heated commentary or predictions of doom; this is a highly stressful time for some people.

edit: Please take caution to fact-check any relevant information before sharing it. There’s a lot of rumors and misinformation going around right now, and it’s easy to share something that turns out to be wrong. If in doubt, check reputable sites such as Snopes or reliable news sources, and don’t share something if you’re uncertain of its accuracy.

Thanks for making this discussion, Galactic Radiance.
I learned this thing about coronavirus the other day, and it changed the way I saw it. Say that the coronavirus is on your tongue. If you drink a lot of water, you will “flush” the coronavirus down into your stomach, where your stomach acids will break down the coronavirus. Therefore, if you want to mostly prevent coronavirus from reaching you, one of the best things to do is to drink lots of water.
Hopefully this may have lessened some people’s fears about getting coronavirus, since this is one way to prevent you getting the virus.
But just because there is a way to prevent getting the virus inside of you, doesn’t mean you should stop washing your hands and practicing social distancing. The coronavirus is still extremely contagious and a potentially fatal disease to high-risk groups.
Good tip, will implement.
I am currently stuck at home for 3+ weeks because of coronavirus! My school has given us one weekextended spring break, and one, week of e learning. If this goes on much longer, we will have more weeks of e-learning.

That is not true: Will Sipping Water Every 15 Minutes Prevent a Coronavirus Infection? | Snopes.com
The most important things right now are handwashing and distancing yourself from other people.
Be especially cautious about information shared via social media or messaging apps (Facebook, Whatsapp). Always cross-reference with independent sources.
At my house, we’re staying inside, sanitizing all surfaces daily, washing our hands (A LOT!), stocking up on canned food, and being really careful.
I’m keeping up with case numbers and other developements in my province (I’ll probably talk about it here), washing my hands more often, and not going outside.
Almost 100 cases in my state now, including one death.
Apparently someone I know may be infected (they haven’t been tested, but it seems that way).
My county alone has 189 right now
A shelter-in place order was made a few days ago, everyone is stocking up on food and the shelves are empty in the grocery store.
271 cases in BC and 8 deaths as of yesterday at 3pm. I feel bad for all of the people that died at this one long-term care home (almost all of the deaths are related to that home).
Only 115 cases and 0 deaths in Minnesota, US. We live in the country. My parents own a business and the workplace is a building right across from our house. We HAD workers in the building, but we sent them all away. My brother works at a shipping facility, so that’s kinda concerning. My other brother came home from college and is now doing school at home and sucking up all our internet data. Minnesota is currently declaring that everyone should shelter in place.
My tip is, ‘if you want to conserve toilet paper, stop buying so much canned chili’. lol
I have no idea why I’m here, but that’s my life story…
I went grocery shopping today and it was interesting seeing the stuff that was sold out. Most of it was just the standard stuff like toilet paper, cleaning products/hand sanitizer, canned goods, and pasta sauce (there was still a little bit of pasta left), but the beef was pretty much sold out too.
School was empty last week. About two thirds of the class weren’t there (though it depends on what class). A lot of classes were mixed together because we didn’t have enough substitute teachers. As of Monday, we are working at home via Google Classroom, so I will probably be busy. We will likely only be back after the summer holidays.
Multiple independent sources I have seen have said that drinking water will ward off coronavirus. Also, the only reason the website marked it false was because there weren’t enough sources to back it up. I understand why it could be mixed up with ways to ward off the common cold.
One of my mom’s colleagues tested positive for coronavirus, and now I need to be vigilant about social distancing even in my own home, with my own parents.

Well that’s awkward.
Drinking water doesn’t prevent coronavirus: bbc.com/future/article/20200319-covid-19-will-drinking-water-keep-you-safe-from-coronavirus
When it comes to medical information, please do not share anything that’s not backed up by reputable scientific sources. I understand the desire to spread information that could help people, but not everything shared in the immediate moment is what’s actually true (like the claims that dogs could contract coronavirus). When it comes to medical information like this, if the information isn’t scientifically backed, it could just be rumors at best and harm people at worst.

I’ve heard from medical professionals as well that this is indeed a false claim.
