The recent talk of Recent Changes Camp and WikiWomenCamp reminded me that some (mostly) East Coast wikiHowians at Recent Changes Camp Boston last year had discussed having an East Coast wikiHow meetup, preferably in NYC that would not be held in conjunction with a wiki conference. Instead, we’d go sightseeing together and discuss wikiHow issues. I emailed Jack and Krystle before creating this thread just to give them a head’s up and they are both open to the idea. Would anyone be interested in attending an East Coast wikiHow meetup? Would NYC work for people? If so, what time of year would be good? P.S. Sorry to bombard the forums with posts about wiki events. It’s just that I don’t have Internet access during the week right now, so this is one of the few times I can write all these posts. P.S.S. If New York doesn’t work, I was thinking we could have the meetup in another east coast city like Boston, Philadelphia or even the D.C. area. If wikiHowians are planning to go to Wikimania (which is in DC this year), however, it may be a good idea to have the wikiHow meetup in another city.

Sorry, but I can’t go outside of Boston. Saving up on a potential trip next year and already have one down for this summer. Hope you guys have fun though!

NYC would work for Mel and I… weekends would be best. Summer would be better.
If the scheduling worked out, I would go.
I don’t think I can make Wikimania this year, so would love to see wikiHowians somewhere else.
Depending on scheduling and a few financial factors right now, New York could work for me. Would need to take the train south to get there about 2 hours away. Anywhere’s else, and I’d be fried.

I’d be up for it! Winter is my favorite time in NYC, summer my least favorite (subway at rush hour, ick). But, winter is a hard time for people to get away, with the holidays and all, so my next vote is for fall.
I could do summer or fall.

Summer would work out best for me, too. I’d be in for a NYC or DC meetup, but I have plans in the next few months, so I’d personally have to play it by ear.
As far as months are concerned, everything except for Mid April, mid March, mid June, mid August, mi September, mid October and Mid December would work for me. Tge only problem: tge meetup can only happen on a weekend, as my job is super picky about these issues. As far as travel is concerned, I’m 2hours away from NYC by train, anything else is out of the question. I’d like to come to see what it’s like, but if anythings a prob with this, let me know, and I’ll not come.

D.C is a good bet (though as a new driver I’m worried about the traffic in both NYC and DC). August would be best for me.
I could do late April, May, early June, late Aug, and many weeks in Sep, Oct and Nov. Would be awesome to meet more wikiHowians!

I’d love to do something like this, but obviously I live on the wrong side of the world.

I’m just going to throw a date out there…How does the weekend of October 13 & 14 sound to everyone who’s interested in NYC? @elocina

@SudoKing
Also, if I’m flying across the country, I’ll probably stick around for at least a week, since I’m originally from the area and have family and friends there, so I’m open to meeting up with people on weekdays too

I would also be interested in a NYC meetup, if it all works out. As far as I know now, that time/weekend should work for me too (weekdays are better for me, but a weekend may also work.) @Krystle
I have 2 questions - are there any logistics/details in development yet? I’d be happy to help out with planning the meetup when I have some time. Also (just out of curiosity), would a travel stipend be offered to active contributors?

@Progressive
No plans yet, other than this, and yes! The usual travel stipend is available for very active editors who are coming in from out of town (everyone who has commented on this thread so far qualifies). For those of you unfamiliar, the stipend is for up to $500 of travel/lodging costs; you pay, send us the receipts, and we reimburse you, or if that arrangement is tough let me know and we can work something out. I might also look into booking a bigger place where several people can stay, but that’s something to discuss down the line
@Metsguy234
Nope! Columbus Day is October 8.

The week prior - October 8
Gonna get a little tough, down the line. Gotta see as time comes closer to this date.

West Coast in the summer, now got the green light to go NYC in the fall, and currently working towards going back home for a vacation next summer. I don’t think I’ve had a more wild travel schedule.

Throwing October 6 to October 8 in agreement. If the National Guard doesn’t shift things around, the first weekend of the month is when my husband is gone anyways.
