Why did you join wikiHow? What did you plan to do here when you first came to wikiHow? How long had you known about here before you came? Not to get personal, but I’m kinda curious.

I joined wikiHow at first, because I was bored. I didn’t use my account for a bit, but then I did. I have always known about wikiHow, I just never used it in the past.

Yay! I’m the first to comment! Here’s my wikiHistory. I joined way back in them January 2011 days long, long ago to work on writing for my dyslexia. The site is like a workbook for me, only friendlier than the ones at school. That, and I find the idea of wikiHow pretty neat. Now. What did I plan to do here? I planned to read and do a little writing maybe. And when I got here, I realized the site was so much more than that. It says community on the home page, but heck if I knew everyone would be so nice. I’ve made a few wikiFriends here already, y’all know who you are:smiley:Before I was old enough to join, I edited anonymously. No, wait, let’s back up even more. First, I was a googler. One day I was googling on breakdancing and stumbled upon wikiHow. I visited the site regularly after that to read articles until one day I got the idea that anyone could edit the articles to make them better. So I thought, Fine, great, fabulous. Sounds like a nice idea. I made a few edits that, I have no doubt, were rolled back because of crappy spelling. Then I made good edits, then better edits, then wrote some articles, then -miracle of all miracles- I hit 13! And whee! I joined! And made some edits. And found the forums. And read this post. And here I am.

I found the site a long time ago, some time in 2006. I created an account in June 2007, and planned to write articles. i worked on templates for a time, then became inactive, although I do come by from time to time to edit and patrol RC. I hope you feel a bit more wise now ;D

I’d known about the site for a few years before I actually joined, possibly because I once searched “how to use peter answers”, and wikiHow was the first Google result. Before registering, I also used the site to search for articles on how to draw manga characters, how to look emo (yes, I went through that phase xD), and how to have nice skin. I finally joined on August 8, 2009, the summer before I started the eighth grade. Couldn’t tell you exactly why I joined, but probably because I wanted to show off my writing. I didn’t necessarily expect to stay around long, nor did I have the faintest clue what I was doing at first, but the people were nice enough. Plus, I got the strangest satisfaction when I realized that I was actually doing something constructive with my time online. wikiHow was a great creative outlet, and I loved the kind feedback from others when I put all my effort into an article that others could enjoy. And in the beginning, I didn’t even write articles; I found other ways to help out, by adding images, welcoming new users, patrolling, and copyediting (probably my favourite wikiHow pastime). It was amazing that I’d held the interest in wikiHow for that long because generally I lose interest quickly. Miraculously, I found that the site never seemed to get old.:slight_smile:Oh, and soon enough, I got this crazy-wild idea that if I edited enough, I could become an admin. I’ll admit that at 13, I was pretty self-absorbed, and a large part of the attraction of becoming an admin was the sense of authority that came with it. (But it’s funny, being on this site has actually made me pretty humble.) Adminship was my “wikiAmbition” for a while. So yeah, about a year and a half in, I ran for admin, and I got it! n_n Strangely, I don’t feel any different now. I guess I just really like the site and the people on wikiHow, regardless of my rank.

I joined wikiHow because it looked cool! I’d known about it (but only used it rarely) for awhile (like 2 years maybe), and I knew that my brother (Anson S) had an account and told me it was way awesome-er than wikiAnswers which I had been doing at the time. I joined on August 12, 2010. I joined wikiHow because 1) I like to contribute where others can see and recognize my contributions 2) because Anson S had an account and said it was great 3) because I love to help people:slight_smile:In the beginning, I did a variety of things. I mostly did what Katy said she did, ‘adding images, welcoming new users, patrolling, and copyediting’ . I still do copyediting and formatting, because it’s easy. I also like to add images and weave links to make an article more ‘pretty’. I’m not an Admin or booster, though I’m currently taking the Boosters test. Later this year if I and others think I’m mature enough, I might consider running for Admin. As I said earlier I love to help people through welcoming, answering questions, and designing and archiving their pages for them. Actually, I think I do more helping users than editing articles… Which is probably why I have two kindness barnstars.

Cool, Isabelle:)

Thanks!

Your welcome!

this is my first time to wikihow , and the first time to browse the english wiki,um…The reason i search for the wiki ,just cause i want to improve my spoken and listening english ,a occasional chance the wikihow is in my eyes ,hhaa.

I joined pretty recently (I’m the newbie :D). I kind of knew there was such a thing, cause I saw mention of it on Wikipedia, but it wasn’t until my dad suggested I write on Wikipedia that I came here. Oh. Wait. That’s confusing. Well, as I’m sure you know, Wikipedia is like the security system of the government, and poor newbie me had no idea how to use it. So I went over to wikiHow. Originally I intended just to make a few anonymous articles on Dobes and Pitties, but . . . you guys are all just so gosh darn nice, I couldn’t resist joining! Now I’ve written quite a few articles (check 'em out at my profile) and quite a few of those quite a few are Rising Stars. My ambition is to get a Featured article . . . Not there yet!

Found wikiHow early 2007. Starting editing at *gasp* age 11. Wrote my first article (Start a Baseball Card Collection) anonymously around that time, and then joined wikiHow that March. Luckily, I knew of COPPA, and knew not to tell my age. May 2008 I hit age 13. Yay. Late 2008 I left wikiHow, came back for a short spell in mid-2009, then left again for some reason. December 2010 I returned and since then I’ve been editing full-strength again. All three times I joined or rejoined I did it on a whim, wanting to give wikiHow a first, second, or third shot.
