Hello Everybody, I am concerned towards the growing number of poor quick edits made while patrolling by some people. Though everything’s being taken care soon, but still I have serious doubts. Do they do this only to get up on the quick edit list? To increase their contributions? Any suggestions on how to reducethis and coach the editors properly? Thank you, Shinako.

Everything in life goes two ways. When it comes to “coaching properly”, it’s not just “coaching”, but it really depends on the person themselves if they wish to either apply the advice given and become a better editor by learning the ropes, or to ignore the advice and continue how they feel like it’s “their” way of doing things.

For few people on the board now(i repeat,only few), have been doing pretty bad,nonsense edits…like: Before: #*Swimming After the edit # *Swimming

Hi Shinako, A few questions: 1. You say that the edits are made by “some people” but don’t offer much detail beyond that. How many people is “a few”? Are they new? More experienced? How long have you been noticing this? 3. In terms of the example you gave, did you ever just ask the people (nicely, without using terms like “bad” or “nonsense”) why they made the edit? Maybe they genuinely thought they were improving the site or don’t know wiki markup language.

Also, keep in mind that the more you patrol, the more “bad edits” you will encounter. So then you have to ask yourself, is the number of bad edits really increasing, or are you just seeing more of them because you are using RC patrol more often? Just a thought, because I wouldn’t say that I am seeing vandalism and bad edits more than usual.

Hi @Elocina , 1) Maybe 3-4 registered users who do bad edits continuously. One of them is blocked now. 2)Yes, I have left the message at most times,but I never got a reply. @Isorhythmic , Yes, I do know that the no of bad edits will keep increasing but when registered users repeatedly keep doing bad edits, what to do?

@Shinako the best thing to do is to make a post on the Patroller Notice Board http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Patroller-Notice-Board so patrollers and admins alike can keep an eye on their edits.

@Lutherus , Thank you~!

@Shinako not a problem:slight_smile:The ANB and PNB are the first things I check when I get on.

I have made an edit to it now. Can you check it and say whether it’s right or not? @Lutherus

@Shinako Yes it’s correct.:slight_smile:

Because of the sudden growth wikiHow has had, we will get a few more vandals than usual. All the more reason to recruit more patrollers. (; June Days

Yeah I noticed some horrible edits recently. You wonder if people just do it to try and ruin the websites good reputation.

yep that’s true:frowning:

Guys, I fear you just bumped an old thread…

Yeah

oops:open_mouth:

Is bumping good or bad and why is it bad

I guess, at most times bad but that depends on content…this discussion was dead and that’s why it sunk.To bumping it makes no sense.

@GlamGirlRock Bumping isn’t “good” because it sends a thread that has obviously died for a particular reason up to the top of the list of threads. This was 3 weeks old when it died. I’m assuming the thread stopped because the conversation ended. Bumping this sends it to the top of the list when it really didn’t need to be there. @Hinni May I ask that you not bump old threads? Like what I said to Jazzie, it usually isn’t necessary because the conversation stopped weeks ago. If the thread is over a few weeks old, you shouldn’t bump it unless there is something very important to say that goes with it and there is not another thread that you can say it in. Check the date to the right of the person posting. The comment should have their picture, their username and how long ago they posted. I don’t think there is anything else that should be said here. May I request a closing please?
