what are your Halloween / day of the dead traditions?

dressing up?

trick or treating?

normal day?

costume ideas?

decoration ideas?

 and

just general Halloween talk!

I always go Trick-or-Treating. Some people say it’s for little kids, but A.), I see college kids doing it and B.) Free food and C.) Excuse to publicly cosplay. I don’t see why not.

cosplay is the best!!!

IKR? This year, I’m being this person:

Your profile pic? She/he is good looking:slight_smile:

We normally just do usual things. I don’t know what to say:stuck_out_tongue:

NEPETA!! Awesome, Avian!! I’m just making up my own sort of witch character to dress up as for the dorm trick or treating haha.

^ You have dorm trick or treating too? So do we. I don’t really know what to wear, but my costume would probably be all-black accompanied with black makeup. Speaking of halloween, I have the lamest halloween-related pickup line. “I haven’t really figured out a halloween costume, so can I just go as your girlfriend?” xD

wow that’s awesome lol

hang out with u and just watch scary movies

lol fun

I have another (extremely lame) halloween themed pickup line. “I don’t know what the trick is, but you are certainly a treat.” #ReasonsWhyAlexIsAFail

funny

Me? Nah… I can’t go trick-or-treating anymore cuz…

  1. I am too old for it now…

  2. Everyone hates teens so much around here that there is like a curfew during Halloween that no teenager is allowed outside after 8pm I think. There are a lot of prankster teens and nasty people around this neighborhood… *sighs* I don’t like going outside during the night anyway.

A lot of parents take their children out trick-or-treating early to help avoid confrontations with the nasty teens and so they can see where they are going without needing to bring torches (unless it is already dark by then) but it doesn’t always work that way.

I have to stay at home while my dad take my sisters out and I have “candy duty”. I like to make it as dark as possible in the house… have candles lit and play the most creepy music with NO lyrics in it I can find and have it on high volume (not too high ofc). :D

Wow, you live in a really rough neighbourhood! I just sucks when a group of people’s poor choices ruin everyone else’s, doesn’t it? Still, it sounds like you know how to have fun regardless of your predicament. I hope you have fun this Halloween, Taylor!

Hey, I was wondering what is the idea behind Halloween. Is it not scary? I know it is about ghosts, but I dont know  what the day stands for? Please share with me. Thanks.

October 31, celebrated in the United States, Canada, and the British Isles by children going door to door while wearing costumes and begging treats and playing pranks. All Hallow’s Eve, the evening of October 31st. Halloween was Christianity `s failed attempt at eradicating paganism in the 9th Century. Originally, the pagans dedicated the period of late October to early November as a time for honoring their ancestors. Then along came the Christian s, who declared November 1st to be All Saints Day and forced the pagans to honor that day instead. The pagans simply celebrated their ancient traditions in secret on the evening before November 1st. When the Medieval Era ended, and the age of Protestant ism began, the pagan tradition was celebrated more openly, eventually becoming an evening holiday in the Western Hemisphere.  During Halloween, the children, dressed up in their favorite costumes, go door-to-door throughout the neighborhood, asking for candy or snacks.

does this help?

Whow. That means Halloween roots back to Religion anyways. Thanks Merc:slight_smile:Much thanks for the detailed info. I had no idea it has such a great history.
