Hi guys. Lately I’ve been feeling unexplainable sad. So I did some research, and I got some symptoms for teen depression and they matched how I felt.

  • Thoughts that life may be better without you
  • Too tired to get started with the day
  • Hard to explain how you feel
  • You cry a lot
  • Feel mad or angry with the world
  • You feel like everyone will be disappointed with you for having depression, etc…

I need help explaining this this to my parents. If you had teen depression, could you tell me how you told your parents? How you over came it? I just need someone you understands how I feel. Thanks.

Hi SoccerStar24,

Depression is a serious condition at all ages. It’s great that you researched it and are looking to reach out for help. Talking to people about what’s going on is the best possible thing you can do. You’re moving in the right direction.

It just so happens that we have an article on talking to your parents about depression . I edited it just now with you in mind. All of my advice for you is in here.

I had depression also, when I was 18. I had many of the same symptoms that you listed. I wound up in a doctor’s office, and the doctor called my dad for me. It took a bit under a year of treatment and trying various pills until we found the one that worked. I also made lifestyle changes, such as going to a school that did not eat my soul.

Depression is difficult, and you’re strong for dealing with it and choosing to ask for help. Asking for help is a great skill. Have courage.

I’ve been through bouts of minor depression and have had friends with similar problems. The best thing you can possibly do is to just talk to your friends. Not necessarily about your depression, but about literally anything. Just do things that you enjoy, but not on your own. Whatever you do, don’t do it alone.

@TetheredAvian74 makes a good point about reaching out. It’s important to spend time with people you care about. Your depression may try to isolate you. Fight that. Being with others can help you stay okay.

Hi,

As a person who suffers from depression, I would suggest talking with your parents and seeing a therapist or psychiatrist. They are the ones who can diagnose you with depression if that’s the reason you’re feeling the above symptoms and also prescribe medication to treat it.

+1 @Lutherus-Shyrilser

Hi,

You can also try volunteering and helping others after going to a therapist and reaching out. I mean no matter how badly tormented you are, your reserve to help others is never over. Just my view.

Um @Luth :o Your effort and determination never let me have any clue of you fighting depression. Proud of you.
