I thought that there should be a category under “Health” called Illness Signs. It would be for how-tos on telling if you have a sickness. However, I am not sure if there are enough of these to make a category. I found a couple, but still… What do you guys think?

Moved to New Category Suggestions from Help Using wikiHow.

Do you have a list of the articles in mind? I read a book like this on diganosing and it was actually pretty cool but I think we’d need a solid steer on what you’re thinking of putting in this. Thanks!

And also it’s quite a dangerous topic to discuss, I mean you could have a group of 5 symptoms which could hold several different diagnosis’…

Hmmm… I’m not sure about it. It was just an idea. If you guys don’t agree with it then that’s fine with me.

Hi there! It’s not about not agreeing with you - I think any medical info online could be potentially dangerous for people fool enough to self diagnose without seeing a doctor. wikiHow has its disclaimers in place. The problem is not knowing what articles you’re thinking would work in this case; sometimes the proposal of a category idea is not as clear to me as other times and I need a clear steer. In this case, it might be too hard but if you made a list of ideas in your own user space to show us, that’d help enlighten us as to what you’re thinking of. Thanks!

I found articles that fit this category while I was browsing articles. These are: Know if Your Cat Is Sick, Tell if a Betta Fish Is Sick, Know when Your Horse Is Sick and when to Call the Vet, Know if You Have Pneumonic Plague, Know if You Have a Cold vs. a Fever, and Know if You Are Mentally Ill. I am still on the lookout for others, but are these enough? There are six, and the requirement says 5+ and all show illness signs. However, some of them have more than just illness signs, like step one has illness signs and then there are steps that say what to do if you do have the illness. What do you think?

Are the animal illness signs to go with the human illness signs, or seperate?

Well, I’m not sure. I just called it “Illness Signs” so they can either go together or there could be different sub-categories or they could be two different categories.

OK, thanks for the ideas but I’m not going to mix animals and humans health articles. For starters, we have distinct, specific categories on purpose. Second, vets and doctors don’t try to do each other’s work and this would really start confusing things. And really, I think the categories in health and pet health are currently sufficient for covering the signs. I am concerned that the articles cited are dragging them out of specific enough categories already to add them to a potentially confusing category, which isn’t really needed. If you have more clarity on the direction later though, please raise this again.

We have subcategories of different things for each specific animal.

So… what does that have to do with this? Like, not to be rude. Can I add it as a subcategory?

Please don’t bump discussions.

No, only the category team creates new categories (myself, Maluniu, and Webster). And what I tried to explain, perhaps not as clearly as I could have done, is that I believe the suggested category would lead to confusion rather than being beneficial, and we already have very clear specific categories in place for animal health and for human health that are doing a fine job of keeping the articles in a suitable place. I hope that helps clarify it. Thanks!

Okay. Catspj01, you keep telling me not to bump discussions. I am not bumping a discussion, I am asking about another person’s comment to learn more about wikiHow. Okay Flickety, thanks for helping me to better understand.

I think they should remain as is.
