Yesterday, I went to type in wikihow.com
, and I accidentally typed: http://www.wikihow.co.uk/
It comes up with the message: Welcome to Wiki How, which is currently being developed ready for launch. In the mean time if you are after thousands of pieces of How To advice, please visit Tell Me How… Is this part of wikihow, or is it someone else’s website with the same name? I thought maybe this might be confusing is someone new heard about wikihow, typed that address and never found this wikihow.
Yeah, that is a little weird. I think it’s someone elses website.
Cool. I was just a little concerned.
That’s a little confusing and misleading for anyone who happens upon it by accident. Yeah, it definitely looks like it belongs to someone else. I highly doubt that a branch of wikiHow would spell it “Wiki How”.
Maybe you should ask @JackHerrick
. He would know!
If it’s unauthorized, whoever makes “Wiki How” could get into trouble for copyright. @JackHerrick
is the best person to ask.
everyone repeat after me: copyrights are not trademarks are not copyrights are not trademarks
Your sarcasm was greatly missed in these forums; everyone knows that my jokes are not funny… But back on topic, I discovered a site called wikiCredia (on a free hosting site called wiki places) that mentions some of our editors by name. It bills itself on doing the same thing as wikiHow and seems to be an unauthorized clone… The only user who knows about it is McCubby, who wrote 2 articles detailing it. (Both are NFD candidates.) This whole matter is a bit uncomfortable…
Actually, me and McCubby have started wikiCredia which is sort of wikiHow and wikiPedia mixed up. We have permission from @Krystle
to copy articles from this site to wikiCredia. Don’t know how the matter is “uncomfortable.”

I don’t recall giving permission to do that…because I don’t have the power to give such permission. I do recall answering a question about whether the information on wikiHow can be shared, and I’m pretty sure my answer was something along the lines of “Yes, as long as these conditions are met: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Creative-Commons
”
This is peculiar - a lot of information is coming to light.
@Krystle
Yes, that’s what I meant.
Couldn’t find the right word choice.
Remember when @Krystle
gave us permission to share information from wikiHow as long as they’re along the terms above are met?
Regarding wikihow.co.uk
– that’s a domain that someone else purchased a while ago, and has no affiliation with us. We’ve known about it for a while. If the owner of the domain tried to build a wikiHow-type site there, we would be obliged to take action to protect our trademark, but as long as he’s not doing anything with the domain, there’s little action we need to take. @Connor
Fleming and @McCubby
- in order to meet the terms of the Creative Commons license, each article published on Wikicredia needs to have a link back to the original article attributing wikiHow as the original source. The page linked above by Krystle has sample wording for you to use.
Yes, that’s what we have done.
Hmm. Let me go add links. I checked the page history and no one has edited the pages or taken down the links, so that’s odd. However, http://wikicredia.wikispaces.com/How+To+Baby+Proof+Your+Computer
. http://wikicredia.wikispaces.com/How+to+Cat+Proof+Your+Bathroom
http://wikicredia.wikispaces.com/How+to+Make+Checkerboard+Bars
were all made and originated by Cbrownie, so, she can add them since she is the originator right? I don’t see a problem with that. http://wikicredia.wikispaces.com/How+to+Familiarize+Yourself+With+Horse+Training
was a article made by Isabelle Zita originated on this site. Isabelle Zita wrote it on that site http://wikicredia.wikispaces.com/How+to+Make+a+Cheese+Stuffed+Crust+Pizza
was a article I made all on my own from experience on making cheese stuffed crust pizza.
