Is it possible to have MiscBot drop a note to the user that she is impersonating at the time… just out of courtesy, so we will know when we are welcoming new users? Maybe this has already been addressed in previous threads?

That would double the talk page messages. If you are editing, you are going to be ‘used’ by the bot, unless you opt out.

It uses quite a few different editors throughout the day, so I think that notifying them would be a bit of a hassle perhaps. You could always just look in recent changes or the new users log to see whether it is using you, or if it’s a bad time just opt out =)

It would just be one message at each change; hourly?

I think the welcoming bot signs the name of the whichever admin or booster most recently edited. So it is changing constantly throughout the day. To be safe, you should assume that whenever you (an admin or NABer) are editing, the bot is welcoming people for you. If you find this disconcerting, the easiest thing to do is to opt out of the tool in your preferences settings.

@Zack If you would like to opt out, you’ll find the option in your preferences under the “Misc” tab:If you’re curious about the tool and how it works and how it came to fruition, here’s a summary: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Welcoming-Tool

Thanks everyone for helping me understand the automated welcome bot. I have welcomed 11,345 users without automation… if my count is correct. I do not want to opt out, just feel that it would be courteous to know when someone poses as me. I will now assume that the bot is posting my name when I am editing.
