I’ve been on a long wikiHow break. I have returned and discovered that I am welcoming people without my knowledge. The way I discovered this is that I kept receiving mysterious messages from new contributors thanking me for the welcome message. I went to the talk pages in question and discovered that I had mysteriously welcomed them to wikiHow. My question: Are automatic welcome messages now generated? Just curious, MA

Mary, I had the same question when I returned from my hiatus. Check out the following forum thread which describes how to the new welcoming tool works: http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/comment/36100

Also, you can opt-out of it in your preferences if you like.

Hey MA! Not a dumb question at all! Lots of people have wondered if perhaps their account got hacked:slight_smile:You can find more details on how this welcoming tool came to be here: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Welcoming-Tool

That is actually incredibly perceptive - they are indeed. The welcoming tool will continue to use your name at random (not entirely random, though) if you don’t do anything. If you aren’t okay with that…

Thanks Eric for solving the mystery. MA
