This would be placed on articles to mark articles that are out of date and inaccurate and would send them through the topic greenhouse for updating. The template would read something like this:
This article needs an update because: {{{1|}}} See the talk page for more details.
Please add newly available information to this article to improve the accuracy of these steps. If the topic is no longer achievable, please replace this template with {{historical}}. Notice added {{{date|}}}.
The reason being {{techupdate}} only applies to tech articles and I found a non-tech article that seems a bit dated ( How to Help Earthquake Victims in Japan: 13 Steps (with Pictures)
) and not reflective of the current situation. I am not an expert in this area to be too helpful, but I do know that most of the residents that have been displaced by the Daiichi disaster are probably not going to return.

I think this is a fine idea, but don’t we already have templates that cover this?
This could be easily covered with an {{attention}} tag. Nothing wrong with simply leaving the reason for an update on the discussion page - lots of experienced editors would know to look there.
And this could be stated with an {{accuracy}} tag. If the {{update}} template has to specify that the accuracy needs improving, {{accuracy}} could take its place.
That being said, I don’t see much of a need for this one at the moment. I think it’d just be taking the same job as {{attention}} or {{accuracy}} (or maybe even {{historical}} in some cases). No problem with using one of these other tags instead.

I agree that the function of the proposed template could be covered by existing templates. But that does lead me to ask more generally if there’s any known way to focus on articles with the attention or accuracy tags on them besides going to their maintenance categories, because I don’t think we have a greenhouse specifically for those tags. Articles that get tagged as {{attention}} or {{acc}} don’t seem to get touched all that often, especially if they’re deindexed - the Articles Needing Attention category has six pages worth of tagged articles, and the Accuracy category has eleven pages. Many of those pages have been tagged 3+ years ago and have only been touched by the bots since then. I don’t think pushing articles needing updates into the Topic Greenhouse is the right choice because that’s mostly used by newer editors, but the current system with {{attention}} and {{accuracy}} (and honestly, {{techupdate}} itself) doesn’t really seem to be working either.

This has brought up some interesting questions for sure. It could definitely be useful to be able to further focus attention and accuracy tags and therefore make them easier to help. I’ll check this week and come back to this for some discussion
