I was thinking about starting a new monthly wikiHow survey that surveys users about various things in wikiHow. After a user fills out a survey form, they would email it to a wikiHow email address (i.e. survey@wikiHow.com
). An admin (to secure email privacy) would take the survey statistics and place them on the wikiHow survey page (I could make the page). For example, if one of the questions was “On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, how would you rate the current way vandalism is handled?”, and 75% of the users said 8, the admin could put that statistic (what the majority said) for each question on the wikiHow survey page. This would supply all editors a useful insight into what the community thinks and allow users to share their thoughts about wikiHow. The questions could range from app functionality to “Do you think enough requests are being answered on a steady basis?”. The survey’s results would be beneficial to almost all users. Please let me hear your thoughts on this!

Or…you can ask survey questions here!
If you want, you could start a poll on another site where people can vote anonymously and embed the poll in the forum post with HTML, so people can see the results in a chart.

To add - I’ve been doing monthly “fun” wikiHow surveys on the forums for quite some time; kind of stopped after the move to Vanilla. But it got a pretty good amount of replies.
I will use twiigs.com
for that
most poll making websites give you the HTML code to copy and paste
The reason for vanilla is that phpBB was really buggy and kinda falling apart, or at least it’s the one I’ve heard.
I like the idea of examining these questions on a regular basis. It would be good to use a polling platform that allowed for longer answers. For example in the case of whether or not vandalism is handled the right way, I think it would be more helpful to know specifically what poll takers think is being handled well and what isn’t. It would also be good to have a section of the poll where people could suggest possible solutions to a given problem.
@Elocina
, that would probably be easiest to accomplish if my idea to make a wikiHow page is followed as stated in my first post.
I’d rather have the responses out in the open as part of the wiki value of transparency, so people know who made the comments and have a way to respond and collaborate with them in how to create solutions. That’s why I think using the forums would be one of the best ways to do this.
Polls are fun, and wikiHow-related ones could help the site.

I agree with Elocina, if the substance is not transparent, I don’t support the creation at all, and in fact, would oppose it. Here have been suggestions supporting the idea, yet the person who proposed it seems to be turning a deaf ear to the suggestions…
Not to get off topic, and not to sound like a jerk, but: Why the move to Vanilla at all? Do enough of the members of the forum really know HTML that it’s even useful having this sort of system? Everytime I try and post, say, a picture, I need to look up another refresher on how to format it with HTML. It’s cumbersome. Is there some other reason for using Vanilla that I’m missing?
