There was some talk about what the goal of the project Newbie Club was for. I think I came up with a new goal for the project, but I’m not exactly sure, so please let me know what you think! Just as a quick refresher, newbie club used to do a lot of inviting. We would invite new members who may have not been on the site for more then a day to the project! Our goal was the “Help New Members”. But it was not really working. @Anna brought up a few points on what we were doing to we decided to stop inviting people to the project and work on finding a new goal. That’s when I think I have a a goal for the project.:slight_smile:Maybe the project could find new ways to help new members around the site and stuff like that. Maybe the new members to wikiHow are not exactly on the project, the project just works towards finding new ways to gel them. Is this a good goal to have for Newbie Club? It’s the best I can think of so far.

@Cap_pop what do you think especially? This is your project.

I’m not sure if we really need anything else, but that’s where the word “innovation” comes in.  Speaking of new ways to help new members, what are you current ideas anyway?

@ Riley Next the welcome bot already tells new folks how to get involved in our Mission if they wish and I think that overwhelming new folks here with invites to projects and telling them what to do when the welcome bot already does that may be a little over the top and potentially put them off on the basis that they will feel obliged to do something on the site when maybe they dont have the time or wish to.

Oh. It was just an idea for the project.

@ Riley Next I think the problem I have Riley is that there are so many projects where nothing actually seems to be done, maybe I am wrong with my view on this, but starting projects and ways to interact with new contributors is great, however I’m feeling there are way too many projects at the moment.  This is a personal opinion:slight_smile:

@SarahB   To be honest, I have the same opinion too.  Some projects do get a lot of things done, but nowadays, most projects get abandoned in less than a month.  It’s quite sad, actually.

Possibly a bit vague? I don’t really understand what you mean by finding ways to help them. What type of ways? Care to give an example? Also I do agree with the fact that projects seem to be doing less that usual. Looking at the old projects they seem to have done quite a lot. I’m not saying that newer projects don’t do anything but they do less. I think it is because everyone is creating projects and then not knowing where to go with them. I know I started my first project when not many new projects were being made and I wanted to start one on a theme I enjoyed editing about. I started the second one because I felt I had a genius idea and I wanted to bags it first. But I do feel that a lot of people are creating projects about anything and everything with very precise thing working on (which in a way is good and in a way is bad) I think that people join too many projects and they can never focus on just one, I am guilty of this too. I might consider leaving a few. To be honest, a lot of the time I join projects because I get an invite or a request to make templates for the project and then I don’t want to be rude so I join even if it isn’t in my area of interest/expertise. I think having an invite to every project made can be a bit overwhelming, I think people should only invite others to projects if they know they will be interested in it (e.g. If you see somebody writes a lot of music articles you can invite them to the music project) because otherwise, if people seem a bit reluctant then they won’t really want to do much. Also people can maybe just stumble across projects by themselves, maybe looking on the Central Project Page and make up their own mind if they want to join or not. I think people should just focus on few projects instead of lots, more will be done and with people who are actually up for it. And one other thing is that, I know because I like to help with this kind of thing, more projects are focusing on stuff like making signs (a trend which I kinda started), making templates (something I am deeply involved in) and sending out invites to other users instead of actually focusing on the goal. I think that possibly projects should get their priorities right. Sorry, that is a *little* bit off-topic but I just thought I would like to share my views. I know I am kinda guilty of some of these things I mentioned, and I think I might have possibly started this whole thing about creating a lot of projects so I’m not saying I’m innocent. I meant no offence by any of this, I was just sharing what I thought. Edit:Also I’m not are if this is how it is like now but if not then I think that all new projects should get a consensus in the forum before they are made. This would be handy, because then the user creating the project could explain the goal and then users could say if they think it has potential or not. I’m not sure if that already is a rule or not but I know not many projects have had consensus yet. Just my opinion.

Unfortunately, this club appears to have been a lost cause. As @SarahB and @Anna mentioned, we already have many other projects that help new contributors. The welcomebot already does the same thing as giving newbies guidance, and the Help Team already helps new contributors. I actually looked at this project, and thought this project is a good idea, but later on, I saw Anna’s point on how the HT does the same thing. I feel like the Newbie club members should help more with the HT page, and the project be marked as historical. The club, as great as it is, cannot proceed sadly.:frowning:

Marked as historical? Possibly. I’d like to hear from @Cap_pop as she created this project. I don’t fully understand the goal so it might work, if not then possibly that might be the only other option I guess.
