I’m a bit confused on the usage of the nfd|not template on articles. I get that it’s used for articles that aren’t in how-to format, but recently, I’ve noticed more articles on the front page of wikiHow that aren’t in how-to format (e.g., Debunking Common Myths About Therapy , A Comprehensive Guide to Using Beard Balm: How Often Should You Use It? ). What’s the updated policy on this?

The Myths articles are currently staff tests to see how readers respond to these formats, so we’re going to leave those as-is. Though I do wish we as community members could suggest format tests or work more directly with staff on what these would entail, because you’re not the only one who’s been confused by these… It’s not the first test to trounce community policy, and I do have some personal concerns that stuff like this hurts the community morale. But that’s a topic for another discussion.:upside_down_face:

So, if I understand correctly, the nfd|not template is still applicable for articles that aren’t made by staff?

Yep. In general, nfd|not content tends to resemble an infodump or spam, and it typically comes from someone with very few contributions. But if someone writes something that looks like it’s meant to be in one of the experimental formats, like the Myths topics, then I’d let Jayne know and direct the writer to her:slight_smile:

Thanks for the information!

We would love suggestions for any format tests anyone thinks might be an interesting experiment…!

Alex is spot on in that we can still use the template, but it would likely be from authors without many contributions or knowledge of these format experiments. We don’t want to go nfding staff-written articles, but if you’re ever not sure, checking with me or the author is perfect:slight_smile:

I agree!:+1:For example, I wrote an article called Myths About Pimples . It’s obviously not how-to and I’m definitely not staff. But the article has not been deleted, and in fact, is now fully-promoted and has been staff co-authored. There were actually some concerns and people asking Jayne if these articles should be nominated for deletion, but she said “no” and no one really did ever nominate it for deletion. It was initially moved to Quality Review for the Content Team to work on, but it’s done now and searchable.

It means the article is not a how to but this template is misused and used in articles that are how tos but not in the correct format:slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @Ahhna.Shrivstava . No, it’s not like that. If an article is not in the wikiHow format, a {{format}} tag will be placed. {{Nfd|not}} is not to be used in an article that is a how-to. As for non-how-tos that are not NFDed, they are staff-written articles, or articles that are in one of the experimental formats, only. Non-how-tos that don’t seem like they are the experimental formats will still be {{Nfd|not}}s.
