Recently I’ve been getting a wikiHow green pop up box on the bottom right hand side of my screen that says:

RC Patrol encountered an error. You can reload RC Patrol or show any available technical information which happens when I am in Patrol Recent Changes.  Any rollbacks or edits I make don’t show up and appear back in the RCP queue.

I’ve logged out and into wikiHow, turned the laptop off and on and even loaded my windows system back to another date point.  Is this a known wikiHow bug or is it something to do with my windows system on my laptop?

@SarahB , Last night I informed @Anna about this problem. She said that she’d look into it.

Thanks @Byankno1 , I just had the error again and clicked on the technical information link and it said {“err”:“Status: error, reported error: MediaWiki exception”} Is this any use @Anna ?

Was also already mentioned as part of my message. @sarahb

Oh Ok thanks Chris - we obviously have the same error!

Thanks to you both, @Byankno1 and @SarahB ! Always good to know how prevalent issues are. In general, we do get little errors here and there in RCP - usually down to some “bad data” that needs to be patrolled manually through the RC page, instead of the RCP Tool. Things like a page move without a redirect need to be zapped from old school RC instead of the tool, so it might be something like that.

Most of the time, you can just keep moving past that error - the ones afterwards should be working fine, even if the box hasn’t gone away. Or you can reload to make it go away!

But if there’s a pattern popping up lately, we can definitely look into it; something something else may be happening. The tricky thing about hunting these errors down is that they’re often about the *next* edit in the queue, not the one you just patrolled (because the tool is having trouble retrieving the next diff). So if you see it happen, it might be worth making a note of the page you were just on, so that we can look in the RC list and see what edits came after it… then maybe we can hunt down whether something bigger is happening!

I had a look and am seeing the error a lot, too - good news is I checked the patrol logs and it looks like the actual patrolling part is working okay! But the error is still annoying and confusing… I’m going to do a couple things: first, try to clear out the RC so that if it is some kind of bad data (like it usually is, but I’m not sure in this case!) stuck in there, we get rid of it! And then also talk to Reuben or another engineer to see, if that doesn’t fix it, what’s up. Thanks for the heads-up!

Hi,
Just to keep the engineers updated, I see those error box too, daily, on all the articles I patrol once it pops.
Thanks.

Sounds like he’s found the issue and removed that for now, so it should be smoother sailing! Give it a whirl, and let me know if you’re still seeing lots of errors. It’s working better for me, so fingers crossed that it is for you, too!

Seems fixed @Anna , however I will keep you appraised of any further oddities!

Appears to be fixed. Thanks @Anna .

Yes, neither am I getting any error alerts since yesterday. Thank you.

@Anna , I think Ruben sorted the bug!
