I recently figured out that edits patrolled from the RC Patrol app are now showing up in Quality Guardian too. The app asks the user a simple question: “Should this edit have been patrolled”? This new feature allows users to patrol “patrolled” edits. It also allows me to send a quick note to the user who patrolled the edit and also quick edit the article. Also, the quick note message that this new feature offers looks something like this: Thanks for patrolling recent changes. I noticed that you marked this edit as patrolled: http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?article=Get-Good-Racing-Starts-on-a-Dirt-Bike&diff=8520010&oldid=8507742 (This was an edit patrolled by BR, FYI) What I’m wondering is, is there really a need? We already have RCP to review (or patrol) edits. Now we have this using which we can review patrolled edits. This will definitely help us find patrollers who are marking edits as patrolled without much knowledge of our policies and will make wikiHow more accurate and concise. As a patroller myself, I patrol edits so that the edits get approved by one another user. That way, vandalism is reduced. But when this review of edits is getting reviewed again by another app, doesn’t it question the ability of patrollers to patrol edits?

Not to forget, we have the RC Patrol Coach. Though this bot isn’t perfect, it has been doing a good job since it is been here. Moreover, I have seen experienced patrollers like BR go through the patrol log to check for any patrols which might not be good.

It’s an admin only option in the QG.

Oh, okay. Is this a new feature or was it always here?

I’m pretty sure it’s been there for a while. I noticed it after a while too.

The Quality Guardian version of RC patrol came out soon after or around there when the regular Guardian came out. As said, it’s admins only. There’s a huge difference between the RC Patrol Coach and RC Quality Guardian. The Patrol Coach is enabled for all editors that “tests” one’s knowledge while patrolling. So if they rolled back actual vandalism, they would get a cherry note saying that they made the right choice. If they patrolled vandalism (if the Patrol Coach was on that specific edit diff), they would get a different note. The RC Quality Guardian is a tool in which admins can re-check all recent patrols made by everyone, including other admins. This is to ensure from a human being’s point of view that everything is patrolled accordingly and no vandalism gets through.

Yeah, I remember an Admin telling me once he patrolled my edits in the QG - I forgot about it until now, but I think it’s a handy thing. =) June Days
