I see that the “Answer Requests” section in the ‘Community’ has always been stormy weather. But, I think the reason it’s always like that is because there are just some silly requested articles, or it’s not a real important how to. What are your thoughts?

Of course, a lot of no-nonsence article requests are there, Krystle takes care of that sometimes, but there’s so many articles, we’d either have to spend so much time typing up the article requests, or tell her one at a time, and that might not be the best. Other Admins can do it too, but also, a lot of requests are real. June Days

Yep. And if you run into any ones that would be NFD’d, just notify an active admin.

The request queue consists of over 150,000 requests, maybe even more, even though the Community Dashboard shows a count of only about 47,000 at this point. There’s a few reasons that there are so many requests, the most obvious being that more requests have been added than filled over time. There are many requests that could never create a good article, are duplicates of articles that already exist, are in a “how do I…” format, or one of many other issues. Most need to be removed, while others just need to have a few spelling changes or grammar modifications. In years past, there have been a few different projects to sort through requests, but it’s very difficult to find help with this task as it’s very repetitive and boring. Any administrator can mass-add or mass-delete article requests. I delete a few dozen per week, when I feel like searching my way through the queue, or when a few people send me requests that need removed. We also have a page where you can report requests that need to be deleted, if you would rather do that than ask an administrator directly: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Suggested-Topics-to-Delete I check the above board a few times a week, even though it has not been used since November. Also note that the request delete tool sometimes takes a little bit of time to actually purge the request from the queue, so generally check back around 24 hours after an administrator deletes a request, and it should be gone.

Actually, according the the requested topics screen, there are over 400,000

400,000 is over 150,000, is it not?:slight_smile:I suppose my memory was a tad off…

^ Just a bit!:wink:Anyway, I used to answer a lot of requests, but now, I don’t know what to write, I’m inspiration-less! :’( (Which is weird, because I seem to be quiet, and making up stories…) I do want ti write more, maybe I’ll answer some requests. Maybe. June Days

Nice recovering.

If I may suggest, suggestions could be auto-deleted after six months or one year.

^ Well, if that happened, the users who’s article’s really need to be answered, would be deleted, unless there would be an real person deleting them, or the computer could tell which ones were fake, and which ones were real. June Days

That’s why it would take six months or a year. I created a vision for a tool called the request guardian that would make sifting through (and writing/title-editing/deleting) requests as easy as pie. Of course, we don’t need that as we only have 400,000 or so requests. No big deal.

To the above comment I would add that this would also releave the site of all the requests that don’t really need articles, because relevent how-to’s have already been written.

i know why.

You have been warned countless times to refrain from bumping old threads. If I see one more example of forum trolling from you, I will report you on the admin notice board.
