The way articles are currently reviewed for featuring seems a bit flawed. Many FACs never get commented on, and are left tagged as such for excessive amounts of time. Then there are articles that are inexplicably left in the dust, like this one: http://www.wikihow.com/Defend-Yourself-in-an-Extreme-Street-Fight Nearly unanimous support for featuring, with many many voices chiming in over a couple of years with their support… and yet nothing. No featuring, no sign that it was even seriously looked at. I’m thinking perhaps a more democratic featuring process could be interesting. I have a couple of ideas. 1) Whomever currently is in charge of selecting FAs selects, say, 5 FA nominees each day, in the running for let’s say 2 FA spots. The community votes from those nominees, and the winners get featured. 2) This idea would be much more circuitous to implement, but it came to mind and I thought it was at least worth mentioning. I’m thinking of a “FAC review tool”, similar to the RC patrol tool, which allows users to read current FACs and select “Support featuring.” or “Do not support featuring.”, with a space to leave an optional comment on why the user chose that specific choice. Administrators would be able to access some sort of ranked list of all the FACs based on community support, and would be able to review comments on the shortcomings of articles, and make the changes or consult the original authors regarding them. Quality articles would quickly become featured, and the “close but no cigar” articles could be re-evaluated after they were worked on. Any thoughts on these ideas?

I think this is a great idea! I’m not trying to point fingers, but lately some articles have been featured which I personally don’t think are FA quality… Still not trying to point fingers.

I think these are good ideas, but it’s hard to justify investing time into developing a new tool or system to streamline FA voting process when people don’t seem to spend a lot of time reviewing FA nominations to begin with. Occasionally someone comes through and cleans out old tags, or votes on a bunch of titles, but it’s not consistent. It’s just not something anyone seems interested in doing regularly:slight_smile:That being said, if there is an article you think is FA worthy, you can always mention it to @Flickety directly–it really is that simple.

Isabelle, put this page on your watchlist: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:RSS-feed When it gets updated with new titles to be featured (usually at the end of the week) let me know if there are certain articles you disagree with being featured, and we can discuss it.:slight_smile:

@Krystle – OK, will do!:slight_smile:

I like this idea. Some FAC’s that show great potential are never checked upon and never made FA status.:slight_smile:
