The NAB tool is pretty good the way it is, but as part of the redesign to the wikiHow site, I suggest some things be redone. First off, I’m thinking of the idea that boosters can write any word, phrase or sentence in the search box for copyvio checking, and there should also be an option to Google a snippet of the information by clicking on “Search Google.” Because the copyright check sometimes includes the name of a section as part of the phrase. (Example: Be careful Things You’ll Need) and those sections may not be included in that page. The other thing I was thinking of was, in the “Action” section, there would be checkboxes for NFD reasons (which means that a NFD tag would have multiple reasons and be added through NAB). Then people wouldn’t have to edit the article to add a nfd tag with multiple reasons. (example: if someone checked the “acc,” “inc,” and “not” checkboxes, the tag would appear as {{nfd|acc|inc|not}}). There is also an “Other Reason” checkbox, and the booster would type in the alternate reason. The stub template should also be removed from the Action section. Not a booster’s job to add a template to the article, but to actually improve
it. A booster can easily improve the article by researching and/or thinking up more ideas and adding them to the article to expand it. And making the steps more detailed, etc. If the booster doesn’t know how to improve the article, or doesn’t want to improve it, they can just skip it! Another good addition would be, an option where a booster could either see the first or last articles at the top or bottom of the list. Here is a detailed explanation: *Ascending order - A booster can see the first (most recent) articles at the top of the list. The last (oldest) articles at the bottom of the list. *Descending order - A booster can see the last (oldest) articles at the top of the list. The first (most recent) articles at the bottom of the list. What do you think of these suggestions? Is there anything that can be improved, or stay the way it is?
Also, I think the split template should be added to the action section
Good ideas! However, since it would take a lot of time to do the revisions mentioned above, and there are ways to do the above mentioned tasks, I don’t think spending time on revising NAB as the answer.
For the copyvio thing, if you just copy and paste the phrase into Google, you’ll get a pretty good idea if its a copyrighted, esp. if multiple phrases are found from another source. You can just edit the article to include the template without using the check boxes
(Same with the stub templates) If you use this link: http://www.wikihow.com/Special:Newarticleboost?limit=5000
you can see all the articles, including the beginning of the list and the end. I think the “split” template wouldn’t be used very much, since many of the “split” articles are duplicates anyway (ie decorate your room and clean it, etc). Don’t take this message personally.I’m not trying to attack you, I’m just trying to help you
True, in the perfect world, NAB might have these features, but the small wikiHaus staff would have to go through a lot
to make these features a reality. But I really appreciate that you want to make wikiHow a better place, so kudos for that
Thanks for this feedback on the NAB tool. Totally agree that there could be lots of improvements to this tool. It won’t happen on the redesign, but might possibly happen after we do a mediawiki upgrade.
