I made a new template. It’s stronger than a {{test}} and lighter than a {{warning}}. I made it because I’m tired of wondering if an edit deserves a {{test}} or a {{warning}}. To see it, click http://www.wikihow.com/Template:Testwarn
and to see it on a talk page, see my sockpuppet test account JKL: http://www.wikihow.com/User_talk:JKL

I’m not really keen on such templates being made w/o community input beforehand.

I agree with Maluniu we already had in the past a discussion about the use of templates and we all agreed that we should only use the test and the warning template. I don’t think we need another template.
No. JKL1234, please at least look at the format of the other ones instead of remembering it. First of all, it is way too short. Second, it doesn’t contain any sort of greeting, like “Hello and welcome to wikiHow”. Third, it just doesn’t have that unique “voice” to it. Fourth, it doesn’t contain very strong word choice. These need to be formal, and that is mandatory. Fifth, I was told not too long ago that projects and teams do not need community input to be made, but coaching templates do. Hmm…
Also, I really advise not using it yet.

The current warning templates are sufficient.
Why do you need community approval? Isn’t the policy to be bold? Just curious.

I think it was decided in this forum thread
to limit the number of coaching templates used, unless they were agreed upon by the community first. From How to Create a wikiHow Template
: “If you are creating a template to be placed on the article page, or a talk page template that coaches a new editor, show it to the community in the forums before you start using it. Since these templates can clutter up article pages or easily discourage authors, respectively, it’s important to seek consensus before using a new one”
I thought the old forums were deleted.

@JKL1234
The old forums are no longer in use, and they are locked so that nobody can post on or create any more threads. They have not been deleted however, so we can look at the past conversations if needed.
@Harh017
- okay, thanks for explaining.

As Harri said, we agreed a long time ago to try and avoid creating coaching templates because it creates a negative atmosphere on wikiHow, and generally we find that having more ways to warn people is not effective. I don’t support the making of a new warning template for those reasons. Just give the {{test}} template; next time give the {{warning}} template, and if that still doesn’t work, consider putting the person’s name on the admin notice board to be blocked. Better yet, instead of using {{test}} or {{warning}}, if you really want to effectively coach people, write a note to them, following these steps: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Coaching-Editors
That is “model wikiHow citizen” behavior
What I do is if the edit wasn’t vandalizam but not a good edit I use Coach For Bad. If the vandalizam was light I use {{test}}. If it was major vandalizam I use {{warning}}. If the edit had profanity I use {{profane}} with the note.
You could always just write a personal note explaining the policy they are violating and what they should/n’t do in the future.
Well, if you remember back a few years ago or something we had all these templates for {{warning2}} and {{random}} etc. Go here for more details. http://www.wikihow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20165
I think that’s a pretty good idea

Will you put a comma after adminastator?

What about personalized notes? I use templates more often because it’s quicker and more professional sounding (that <
Well, you know, I like the {{thanks}} template a lot because I can write a personal note, but sometimes you can’t use that. Also, if you think about it, it seems as if we have a lot of Coach for Bad templates in the Quick Note section of RC Patrol. Also, adding on to what Cece said, sometimes templates are better. It’s better to give {{warning}} than, “OH MY GOSH, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?”
