If you’ve noticed all the dropping of hints and issues with some 2012 Ford Fusion articles Wikivisual images, I feel I need to clue some people in because there is a method to my madness - and why I feel I can’t fix them myself.
Over the past month, I’ve seen Wikivisual come by and try to illustrate some of my Ford Fusion articles. I own a 2012 Ford Fusion, but it seems like they are using systems from a much newer vehicle than what is described. Now while that may be fine and dandy for technological articles (for computers and similar), these systems in cars do change and what may look fresher and cleaner for what some may perceive as outdated, isn’t really clearly “it!”
Viewers would get very confused not finding what they would find inside their vehicle seeing these images…But they keep coming…
They have steering wheel buttons on the steering wheel when in reality they are found between two portions of the steering wheel, and the display not only is curved (when it really isn’t curved) but has formatting not the same as what is found in the car itself, as the font is also not the same - it’s got coloring issues galore. Buttons in the images seem like they are low-touch when in reality the buttons push in…(and even then the imaging they did has the wrong external buttons touched in-my viewpoint).
Heres what the buttons really look like which i sent to Jayne a few weeks ago:

I cant seem to get my cars system to work because the battery died in 2020 and haven’t had money to repair everything that is wrong with it. The font that is used is green on this same black background. About the only thing that is right, is the locations of the font, and all text except that middle text line is all in all-caps with that top line split apart - not like whats pictured in the images.
I’ve brought this up with both Wikivisual the day their first illustrations were drawn, and I continue to mention the articles that have been not so decent. When @JayneG
reached out to me and told me there’s very little chance they’d be changed, and after a revert of their images, these reverts were reverted…I, by the power of wiki-knowledge knowing that compromise is a value, decided that viewers should know what they’ll really see and that they shouldn’t pay too much attention to these illustrations - I decided to place notes- which although they seem like they act as detractors, notes that say “something is amiss, but the content itself is good to the reader.”
However, everybody who encounters these notes has been speaking to me when it should be limited to a select few of us - and I won’t feel well until these images are changed. I have already passed on these images directly through Jayne’s email (won’t attach it here until she says it’s okay to do so) hoping they’d get the message and see what things really look like in their research, but things haven’t improved.
Recently, @R2_d2000
reached out when they saw one of these notes to the reader (sorry for the days’ delay, I had lost Internet for a long period of time last night when the cable went out and I had no access to a supplied phone connection.) I started to communicate the issue, but with the storms beating down in my area and cable knocked out for 9 hours straight, I was without a way to communicate to you - something I could have done had it been encountered sooner, and this message went out a LONG time ago in the forums.
Now, also in the direct email, I tied in some information that ties to this, too. I can’t fix this. My markup program on my Windows computer went defunct in 2015 and hasn’t been seen since. For the longest time in 2012-2014(late), I was a great screenshot and image markuper. I’ve found programs online, but I have problems.
Generally, I need free markup programs. I don’t exactly have much money to spend, so I’m limited. Most of all the markup programs I’ve found cost money which I don’t have.
I also need programs that have the ability to drop neat lines (not the mouse-jagged lines that most free Windows programs allow you to use). I also found useful the ability to blur out parts of images - at times.
For images, I’ve found a need to be able to pull in images through an Open command to open external files not found in screenshots taken with the program and marked up from there.
But here’s the last bit. It needs to be suited to Windows. Although my computer can’t run the big WIndows 11 (due to hardware), I’m pretty stuck to Windows 10. Most programs I’ve found, are geared towards Mac - which I (not surprisingly) don’t have due to cost and effectiveness to understanding having run Windows my entire computerized life.
I know we’ll get through this…I’ve claimed to Admins I’m about to run away from the site…but I can express now that I’m still hooked as I slept on my decision last night and couldn’t see myself any other way.
I have these noted pages listed offline, so it’s not like they aren’t noted anywhere. I’d feel better knowing the images are improved before taking them down. I feel like ownership and managers are finding ways to push away messages in an attempt to not have to deal with those who are contributing positively. To me, it doesn’t feel as if they are doing any additional research to understand the topic better - even if research can be found on official places online. For me to continue helping develop wikiHow, we need to open up and see that there are still some people who actually care about the site moving forward.
