Hi everyone. GG here. Umm… when I was trying to help out Wikihow by clicking on “Add Inro Images to Articles” it gave me a weird message. Heres what it said: Dear intro image adder, We had some good days together, we had some bad days together. At this point, I think we’ve outgrown each other. It’s time for us to break up. Love, wikiHow So I have no clue what this is about when I clicked on the link to add images it wouldnt let me and this showed up. I am at a loss right now of what to do. Hopefully someone can help me or fix this problem? Thank you!
Here is also the link to this that I clicked on: http://www.wikihow.com/Special:IntroImageAdder
And there is no box that will let you add images either! what is going on? Could someone please inform me!
That was the planned message their using for that app. if you can remember, they’ve completely removed the Intro Image adder. It was specified in another forums discussion http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/6321/retiring-the-intro-image-adder
.
But I still don’t fully understand why it’s being removed! For me, I drew my attention. Because alot of people including me, when we look at an article, we say “Oh no more things to read so boring!” and the image would give us kind of a like…sense of what the article is going to be about and made it more interesting and making the reader actually want to read it. Sometimes the title is complicating and lots of us don’t understand it. For example (this is a really bad example because everyone knows what this is but its just an easy example guys!): Title:How to eat a banana Say we didn’t know what a banana was. First of all, the reader if they didnt know they wouldnt want to read it because they would have no idea what a banana was and they wouldnt want to know how to eat one because they have never encountered one. So if there was an article like: Unpeel the banana from the top and pull the skin down to the bottom to get the fruit inside because you don’t eat the skin. Well the person who didn’t know what a banana was would never want to read this because they have no clue what the person is talking about! Now if I added this image:Now they would know what it looks like and when you’re talking about peeling it and if they ever saw one after, they would know what it was! Theres the reason why I think we need images for articles!

On some articles I agree with you, it is helpful. However as you can see in the thread research shows it doesn’t make that much of a difference. Lots of work goes into adding those images, and if its not appreciated, I’m a bit unhappy. Now that its gone, ive seen the Rc flourishing and many other developments …But that may be coincidence.
Summary of the instensive research done on intro images: Readers are less likely to fully read an article with an intro image. If it’s especially a low-quality one, they’ll make the decision to leave the page in 3 seconds or less. The removal of the tool also benefits patrollers by creating less work which would have been reverting bad-quality images, coaching editors, and patrolling other patrollers’ reverts.

@Krystle
When you click the community page, there’s a thing that tells you to help out at wikiHow. The arrows point to answering requests then adding intro mages.
Yes. It gives you two main options when you click the “Help out Wikihow by…” and one of the two MAIN things it doesnt say it really in the other options.

I cannot believe no one noticed that! I had to open up another window to find it!
The message and Image adding option is still there BTW. I just checked it
@Krystle
Here you go. Found the part of the Community Dashboard that still shows the Image Adder link: http://www.screencast.com/users/byankno1/folders/Default/media/ad0fecee-ac14-4e26-8d34-8381d4a7daf9
