I’m so used to seeing literal toddlers with phones (presumably not their own, but still). I don’t want to shame the parents because I see it as a wider issue, not an individual one, but I do find it kind of sad. I’m Gen Z, so growing up I’ve seen a lot of technological advancements, and I can’t imagine what it would have been like having mostly technology to keep me engaged.
It’s also a shame how many people use social media for the purpose of getting famous. Not only can people get famous with no talent, those who do get famous this way usually have rich or famous family members. Take Charli D’Amelio for example. I’m not suggesting she has no talent, I don’t use TikTok, so I can’t make any judgement, but her father was a politician and her mother was a model. I feel like no matter how talented she is, she probably wouldn’t have had all the fame had she grown up in a poorer household.
It’s also a shame because there are some genuinely talented people out there who don’t get recognition. I remember when Gabbie Hanna published a book of poetry and many people were quite rightly annoyed because most of her poems were objectively bad and the only reason the book got published was because she was rich and famous. Some people correctly pointed out that there are probably quite a lot of really talented poets whose books are getting rejected by publishers because of their social status.
It does make you think. More and more media is just made for the sake of being attention grabbing and for making as much money as possible, no matter its quality.
