What about those that have already read it?

Well, they probably won’t sign up again, so they will be completly un-affected. Most anon’s probably haven’t read it already, but it couldn’t hurt to read it again

How often do you read the terms of service of anything before clicking “I agree”? The idea may sound great in theory, but it just wouldn’t work. You can’t force someone to read something. Most people would just scroll to the bottom and hit continue without even looking at it, just like most people do with terms of service. Trying to force an anonymous user to read it when they click the edit button may put them off editing at all, especially if they were just looking to make a small correction.

I do think it’s a fine idea, but wouldn’t people just “read” it, (Not really, just look at it, and schroll down, without reading at all.) and move on? We really don’t want people to not use wikiHow. There are patrollers, (I do understand the patroll number is super high…Over 1,000.) who correct any spelling mistakes. Like I said, it is a good idea, what I’ve said above are just my thoughts. I don’t agree with this. Would seem like it’s going against the “anybody can edit” spirit of wikis. Even Wikipedia doesn’t force anonymous users to read something:wink:

He has a point!

I was gonna say. Being forced to do something, is not what any body really wants, right? June Days

You know what I hate? Terms of use that require you to scroll to the bottom of them before they give you the “I agree” option. You know what I hate more? The bad edits that have been made by a great number of anonymous users. I actually agree with Grahamster on this one.

Are you kidding me! That is not American. This is a free country, and I don’t think we should force people to read the guide, unless they want to. June Days

I agree with this. wikiHow is open to anyone in the world. Do you really expect a person from India to have “passable English” in order to edit?

^^ A lot of our guests aren’t American. Even in America, freedom is relative. “Duh” moment time.:confused:Instead of making it super-easy for vandals to get their way, and instead of leaving good-faith anons in the dark, we really should have a writers’ guide requirement. The trick is to word it so it DOESN’T look like terms of use…yet force people to at least scroll through it before they can click “Continue”.

Or we could just hire a couple vandal-stopping ninjas…

OK, fine fine! We vote. Yes, or no? June Days

Umm…I think I’m going to think about it before posting!

No! I have a better idea. What if we do as Grahamster says, (Or find an easier way.) but have a little test that says like “What did rule four say?”? June Days

Yeah, I was just a little mad. June Days

Maybe…yes? At least we can kind of backfire on the vandals!

Well. I guess it wouldn’t hurt, but some people (And when I say “People” I kind of mean me.) would still have to be convinced. June Days
