What Does It Mean to Be Fun?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, “fun” is defined as “pleasure, enjoyment, or entertainment.” [1] When you’re a fun person, you bring these good vibes with you—people enjoy spending time around you. Now, society has instilled a bit of a bias or preconception around what it means to “be fun.”

For many, being fun means being the life of the party or a party animal. This person is categorized as wild, ambitious, and spontaneous. Their chaotic energy makes anything fun, especially otherwise mundane activities. Because of this, those who don’t fall into this party lifestyle may feel like they’re not fun to be around. Society doesn’t necessarily deem relaxing at home or having a cozy night in as “fun,” but that doesn’t mean these folks are enjoying life any less or are less fun to be around!

At the end of the day, “fun” is subjective. What you define as “fun” may be different than what your friend thinks is a good time, and that’s okay! The beauty of the world is that there’s a community for everybody, and you’ll find those who find you fun with time.
