Your iPhone can automatically fill in information such as your name, address, and saved credit card numbers when you’re using Safari and other browsers. It can also automatically suggest saved passwords or passkeys when you’re using websites and apps. But what happens if you want to change your autofill settings–or if your saved information needs an update? In this article, we’ll explain how to change your autofill options across different apps and how to edit your saved contact info, credit card numbers, and passwords.

Quick Tips to Change iPhone AutoFill Settings

Edit your Safari AutoFill settings in Settings > Apps > Safari > AutoFill . Turn autofill for your contact info or saved credit cards on or off. Adjust password autofill options in Settings > General > AutoFill & Passwords . You can update saved contact info in the Contacts app, or edit passwords in the Passwords app.

  3. 3
Tap Safari . It’s in the S section of the Apps menu. You can also search for it with the search bar at the top of the screen.
  4. 4
Tap AutoFill . You’ll need to scroll down to find it. It’s under the GENERAL header.
  5. 5
Toggle on the options you want Safari to autofill. For instance, if you want Safari to fill in your name, address, and other contact information automatically when using online forms, toggle on the switch next to Use Contact Info . Toggle on the switch next to Credit Cards to automatically fill in saved credit card numbers.
    • Similarly, if you want to turn either of these options off, tap the toggle switch to set it from green (on) to grey (off).
  6. 6
Select a different autofill contact if desired. If you want to use a different contact when autofilling forms, tap the contact name next to My Info . Select a new contact from your iPhone’s contact list.
    • This option allows you to select a different contact, but it won’t actually let you update information like your contact name, address, or phone number. To do that, you’ll need to [#Editing Your AutoFill Contact Info|edit your autofill contact info] in the Contacts app.
  7. 7
Tap Saved Credit Cards to choose or add a credit card. If you already have credit cards saved in Safari, tap the one you want to use for autofill when making purchases online. You can also tap Add Credit Card to enter new card information.
    • If you need to update or change your credit card information for a saved card, tap the card, then tap Edit in the top right corner. Tap the field you want to edit (e.g., Name or Card Number ), then make your changes. Tap Done when you’re finished, then tap < to return to the previous screen.
      • You can also tap Delete Credit Card at the bottom of this screen to delete a card from your AutoFill options.
    • To delete one or more cards from your saved cards, tap Edit at the top right corner of the Saved Credit Cards menu. Tap the radio button next to any card(s) you want to delete, then tap Delete in the top left corner. Tap Delete again to confirm.

Open theSettings app. You can choose whether or not your iPhone automatically fills in saved passwords when you’re using browsers or other apps that might require passwords (like your banking app). To get started, launch Settings from your Home Screen or App Library. [2]
    • Enabling AutoFill for passwords also enables autofill for passkeys and verification codes.
  2. 2
Tap General . You’ll see this at the top of the second big block of settings in the main Settings menu.
  3. 3
Tap AutoFill & Passwords . You may need to scroll down to see it.
  4. 4
Toggle “AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys” on or off. This option is at the very top of the menu. If you want your iPhone to automatically fill in or suggest passwords, passkeys, and verification codes, toggle the switch to the On position (green). If you want to turn off AutoFill for passwords and passkeys, toggle this switch Off (grey).
    • If you need to [#Editing Saved Usernames and Passwords|change or update a saved password], you’ll need to do that in the Passwords app (or in another app that you’re using for AutoFill, such as Chrome or Safari).
  5. 5
Select which apps you autofill from. You can save passwords, passkeys, and verification codes in your iPhone’s Passwords app. However, your phone probably has other apps that can also save passwords and/or passkeys, such as Chrome and Google. You can toggle on up to three different password apps at once under the AUTOFILL FROM header.
    • For example, toggle on both Passwords and Chrome if you want to automatically fill in passwords or passkeys that you have saved in either the Passwords app or the Chrome browser.
      • This can be helpful if, for example, you saved a password in Chrome on another device, but it isn’t saved in your iPhone’s Passwords app.
  6. 6
Choose whether to delete verification codes after use. Your iPhone can detect verification codes that are sent to Messages or Mail. When “AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys” is enabled, you can autofill verification codes from those sources. For safety reasons, you might want to delete verification codes after you use them. Toggle on Delete After Use under the VERIFICATION CODES header to automatically delete codes after entering them with AutoFill.

  1. Safari uses your personal contact card to automatically fill out your name, phone number, email address, physical address, and other information when you fill out forms. If your information needs an update, changing it in Contacts will also update the Safari AutoFill information.
    • If you'd rather Safari not automatically fill in any personal information about you, go to Settings > Apps > Safari > AutoFill and tap the switch next to "Use Contact Info" to turn AutoFill off. [3]
  2. This displays all of the information saved in your contact card.
  3. It's at the top-right corner.

Open the Passwords app. If you’re using iOS 18 or later, your iPhone saves passwords and passkeys for apps and websites in the Passwords app. The icon looks like three overlapping keys of different colors. You can find it on your Home Screen or search for it in the App Library. [4]
    • Using iOS 17 or earlier? This whole process is a little different:
      • Go to Settings > Passwords .
      • Use Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode to verify your identity when prompted.
      • Select the website or app that needs a password update. Tap Edit to update the password, or tap Delete Password / Delete Passkey to delete it.

Verify your identity when prompted. Your iPhone may ask you to verify with Face ID or Touch ID, or use your passcode. This is the same passcode you use to unlock your iPhone.
  3. 3
Search or browse for the website or app that needs a password update. Use the search bar at the top, or tap one of the categories (like All , Passkeys , or Wi-Fi ). Then, tap the app or website you want to edit in the results.
  4. 4
Tap Edit to change your saved info. You’ll see it in the top right corner of the screen once you select an app or website.

    • Note that changing a username or password in Passwords will ONLY update the saved information on your iPhone. To actually change your username or password, you’ll need to do so on the app or website in question.
      • In some cases, you might see a Change Password… link under your saved password. Tap it to open the website or app itself and change your password there.
  6. 6
Tap Save . Once you’ve updated your username, password, and any other information you want to change, tap Save in the top right corner of the screen.
    • Want to completely delete a saved username and password? Tap and hold the name of the website or app in the list of results, then select Delete from the bottom of the popup menu. Tap Stop Using in the warning that pops up to confirm your choice.

  1. Check the Settings menu in the app in question. Some apps, like Chrome and Firefox, have their own autofill settings that you can’t change directly from your iPhone’s Settings app. In most of these cases, the app will have its own Settings menu that you can use to change or update autofill information.
    • For example, in the Chrome app: [5]
      • Open Chrome, then tap ••• in the bottom right corner of the screen.
      • Select Settings from the row of buttons at the top of the menu.

      • Adjust your autofill settings. For example, in Payment methods, you can toggle Save and fill payment methods on and off, or choose whether to verify your identity before autofilling payment methods (i.e., with your face, fingerprint, or passcode). You can also add, remove, or update payment methods.
    • Similarly, in Firefox, you can adjust your autofill settings by going to ☰ > Settings > Autofills & Passwords .
