The switch's home screen appears the moment you take it out of the dock and shows the remaining charge in the top right corner. It will read 100% at full charge. Unfortunately, there is no tone or other indication that charging is complete.

Does the green light stay on when charging or does its blink?

It should be either on or off, if it's blinking, then you may have a problem. If the light is off, then that indicates that the switch is not sending video. If it is on, that means it is sending video, if it is blinking it basically means "green light of death," meaning that your Nintendo switch is not charging or outputting correctly. There are a few things you can do to make sure it will work again but if your switch is dead, then that's it, all over.
