Get to the level 15 or above, lvl 30, or lvl 45. It will show the available upgrades based on your tank, and show you how it looks like and what it's name is. Simply click on the tank that you want to upgrade and it'll evolve into the tank that you clicked on.

Shooting triangles (AKA controlling drones) is a special ability found in a branch of tanks. Here are the upgrade paths: Sniper. Overseer. When controlling drones, you can hold down left click to make the drones go towards you mouse, and right click to make them go away.
