Do you want to be able to quickly call your contacts on your Android without searching your contacts? You can easily add speed dial contacts or numbers on a Samsung phone , or to your Favorites if you're using a different type of Android. You can also add a contact widget to your home screen. How do I set up speed dial on Android?
Open the Phone app to the Keypad tab, then go to â‹® > Speed dial numbers. Enter the contact you want to add to speed dial and assign them a number. To call a speed dial contact, just press and hold the number.

Using Speed Dial on Samsung

1Open the Phone to the Keypad tab. If you have a Samsung phone, this will work for you. However, if you have a different kind of Android phone, like a Pixel, you'll need to use the workaround to add contacts to "Favorites" instead.

2Tap â‹® . You'll see this three-dot menu icon in the top right corner of your screen.

3Tap Speed dial numbers . It's usually the first option on the menu.

4Enter the contact you want to add to speed dial. You can enter a contact name or phone number to add it.

5Tap(to select a speed dial number). This is the number you will press and hold on your keypad to quickly call this contact. If you want a specific number for a speed dial contact, tap the dropdown arrow to select a number manually.
- For example, voicemail is by default is 1 , but you can change it to another number so you can have a contact for speed dial 1 .
- Return to the menu or close the window to save your changes.
- If you want to remove a contact from speed dial, return to this window and tap the minus sign - next to their entry.
- To call someone using speed dial, just long-press their speed dial number. For example, if you assigned the number 7 to a contact in speed dial, long press 7 to call them. [1] X Research source
Using Favorites on Other Android Phones

1Open the Phone app. If you don't have a Samsung phone, there's no "speed dial" option. However, you can add contacts to your Favorites to make it faster to call them. The icon looks like a blue phone receiver.

2Tap Favorites . It's at the bottom of your screen with a star icon. This opens a list of all your current favorites.

3Tap a contact under "Frequents." A quick menu will open.

- On Samsung Galaxy phones, your favorites appear at the top of your Contacts list under "Favorites". On Android phones that use Google Phone, tap Favorites at the bottom of the menu to view your favorite contacts.

5Tap Add (to add from an alphabetical list of contacts). This will open your contact list to include every number associated with a contact. In this case, you can add Jane's cell number and home number separately, even though they're all listed in the same contact info.
- If you talk with someone often, they will be listed under "Frequents" and are easier to add that way.
- To call a favorite, tap the contact's name in the Favorites list. Then tap the icon that resembles an old phone receiver.
- To remove someone, long-press their thumbnail and then select Remove .
Creating Widgets to Call Contacts or Groups

1Tap and hold a blank space on your home screen. Another way to make it easy to call someone fast is to create a Contacts widget and add it to your home screen. You can do this on Samsung, Pixel, or any Android, regardless of what launcher you're using.
- Tapping and holding the home screen will bring up an option to add widgets to your screen.

2Scroll down to the "Contacts" widget. Depending on the manufacturer of your phone, you may see different icons for this widget. However, the blue silhouette for the Contacts by Google app has more functionality.

3Tap a widget to add it to your home screen. There are a few options, depending on the Contacts app you are using:
- Google Contacts:
- 2x2 (with pic) for contacting an individual contact
- 4x1 (with small profile pics) with up to 4 favorite contacts
- 1x1 shortcut to a contact
- 1x1 direct dial a contact
- 1x1 message a contact
- Samsung Contacts:
- Variable 1x1 widget that can hold many contacts to direct dial
- 1x1 shortcut to direct dial a contact
- For any of these widgets, tap it to start a call with the selected contact.
