The forums are one of the things that make wikiHow so collaborative. However, compared to the number of users on wikiHow, there really aren’t that many people who actually know about the forums. In fact, the only two main places I can find a link to the forums are in the “places to visit” drop-down section and in the wikiHow Tour (which only has 6,855 views since the creation of it years ago). Anyways, I think the forums should be advertised a little more directly to new users as a place to receive help, such as in the bot’s welcome message. Who knows, maybe that user will come here looking for help, and end up participating in a forum game or discussion. All I know is they’ll leave with a richer sense of participation and a deeper feeling of being able to collaborate on wikiHow.
^ I was just gonna ask about this, to put this more out there on wH…wR, our minds think alike a lot. o.O June Days
I don’t even want to think about what would happen if everyone knew about the wikiHow forums. We’d be flooded, and I can’t tell with what.
^^ Yes, true, however, there are over 20 active Admins (That I counted in my head) that could take care of it. Besides, not many registers users troll and vandalize this place, and anons can’t read the forums. If more people knew about this, then, people would know about the changes in the Village Pump, they could ask questions in Help Using wikiHow and Collaboration Corner, report bugs that are all around the site in Bug Reports and have fun in General Chat and the Forum Games. June Days
Unfortunately anons might be capable of reading it, but they can’t post. General Chat, and maybe Forum Games, is what is worrying. People might get the wrong idea of how to utilize them.
^ I just said that can’t post… That’s kind of the point of registering.
EDIT: Ohhhhh, sorry… I meant, they can read the forums and can’t post…Sorry … Well, if they get the wrong idea, we, the regular users are here to help. June Days
Oh no, how horrible the thought of other people invading your club
Umm, so what’s the concensus?
I don’t think we have one. I’m not going to be quick to support this, whereas others might be.
Way to wait a whole two hours and ten posts for a consensus. As I recall, Jack said that one of the reasons the forums have not been made more prominent is that it would necessarily take away space from something else. I agree with that, and think the link is fine where it is.

You’re expecting or foreseeing the admins to “take care of it”?
Just a random. thought…I meant, if the threads get bumped back up, the Admins. would close them?
If I were an admin, I would do it (though I wouldn’t just close a thread that hasn’t been posted on in 9 days or anything). Unfortunately, many don’t have the patience to keep the forums in order, seeing as it is a lesser part of the site.
Indeed. See, if we want the forums to not need moderation, we’ve got to make sure the less adventurous users can’t find it.
^ I have a life too - Work piled up to my eyeballs. However, I wouldn’t think there’d be many bumping - Just when an Admin sees that it’s bumped. Anyway, we’re getting off topic…June Days
If I recall correctly from creating my own Vanilla forum, can’t any user be assigned a moderator role on just the forums? Just a thought.
That might be interesting.
