Is there a way to see just the new posts? Or to quickly mark posts as read without actually going into and reading them?

If you want to stay informed about certain topics you can click on the star next to the topic and if there are new replies you will have a notification on your profile and you can easily see them. If you click on discussions i believe you can see all the new topics with the latest replies.

Yup. Elyne is right: http://forums.wikihow.com/discussions lists all the posts in chronological order (after the announcements.) And if you just want to look in specific categories you can click the category links in the right nav like: http://forums.wikihow.com/categories/village-pump http://forums.wikihow.com/categories/village-pump etc If you want to wipe clean your notification number, click on the the notifications tab of your user name, and it will zero out all the notifications without forcing you to read them.

Is there a list of codes/commands that can be used in these forum. I see that at least some HTML works, but what about bulleted/numbered lists? Some forum have easy ways to work this without having to do the full HTML coding.

I’m not aware of a list, but I’m guessing if someone dug around here: Open Source Community Forum Software we might be able to produce one.

I noticed that vanilla forums do have a wysiwyg addon for the forums, is it possible to add it to the forums without breaking them? See http://vanillaforums.org/addon/cleditor-plugin
