Spread a thick layer of glue on the side of the compressed sheets you think the spine of the diary will be. Don't worry if some glue spreads beneath some sheets. The important thing is that there is a lot of glue in the spine so the sheets won't be loose. The worst part is: you have to compress the sheets until the glue is dried, so the sheets won't be hanging out. [3]

You have to remember that you need at least a 3 centimeter (1.2 in) border to each side. These 3 centimeter (1.2 in) of normal paper will be glued on the first and last normal sheets of the inside of the book. [4]

      Tips

      • Have imagination decorating the cover. Find anything and everything that can be usable. Maybe those old coloured pens you thought you didn't like? Or those old stickers inside a box that you forgot? You can even cover your notebook with a beautiful cloth pattern!
      • To make the diary more colorful and more enjoyable for your use, don't stick with the white sheets! Buy some color paper. These can be light tones or electric shocking colours. Make a colour pattern of the sheets (example: white sheet, red sheet, pink sheet, blue sheet and all over again.)
      • Reinforce your book with transparent, adhesive paper. Your diary will be more resistant to water and your cover won't be all messed up, after a while.

      • Use creative lettering and handwriting styles to make your diary pages visually interesting. Try block printing, bubble letters, calligraphy, or your own invented script.
      • Don't just write text! Draw illustrations, doodles, diagrams, word art, and add decorations to bring your diary to life. Expressing yourself visually is fun.
      • Pick a special pen or set of markers to use just for your diary. Having your own special writing tools can make the journal feel more personal.
      • Tape or glue photos, ticket stubs, or other small mementos onto diary pages to commemorate special memories. They'll make great keepsakes.
      • Write a short letter to your future self on the first page. Seal it with a sticker. It'll be fun to open and read it years later.
