Well Unicorn (hope I can call you that), most people “make friends” by getting noticed, and to get noticed you’ll have to do some editing or patrolling. Wikihow is not really a social kind of thing, it’s a huge big big writing project. I suggest you firstly try and test out some of the tools to see which ones you like.
