The scientific explanation points to the ideomotor effect, meaning that a person's brain unconciously sends signals to the body to move the planchette (or pointer) on the ouija board to provide answers that they unconciously want to receive.

Yes, I believe they are real—and they can be risky. Like tarot cards or pendulums, a Ouija board is just a tool. But the danger I'd note is in how it's used. Essentially, if you use a Ouija board and aren't mindful about it, it's like opening a door for anything—without protection or intention.
