Kendrick Lamar has publicly confirmed his belief in God, and he converted to Christianity in high school. He has referenced his faith over the years, but it's unclear if he presently identifies as Christian.

His lyrics and music videos often reference the Bible and Christianity; however, while his early music (like his breakthrough album good kid, m.A.A.d city ) seemed to promote an explicitly Christian religious view, Lamar's music since then has gradually shifted from strictly religious to loosely spiritual and self-exploratory.

For instance, in the song "Mother | Sober" from his 2022 album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers , he says, "Where’s my faith? Told you I was Christian, but just not today." Then again, his 2024 music video for GNX 's "squabble up" features Lamar holding a sign that says "Jesus Saves Gangsters Too," a message many followers of Christianity can get behind.

Whether he still identifies as Christian or merely spiritual, it seems evident that Lamar's beliefs are personal, fluid, nontraditional, and a significant part of his art.
