Bring up something you have in common. “Hey, Kyle, right? I think we’re in English together. Did you get the homework for today?” “You like Kendrick Lamar’s stuff, right? Have you heard his new album yet?” Comment or ask about something around you. “Whoa, that sandwich looks so good. Where’d you get it?” “It’s so empty today… is everyone on vacation or something?” Ask about something you know they’re interested in. “Hey, you’re on the swim team, right? How are you guys doing this year?” “Did you see that new horror movie that just came out? I heard you’re like the only person in school who can watch those, haha.” Give them a sincere compliment. “Oh, your hat is awesome! I kind of want to steal it… haha.” “Hey, your bio project was really cool. Who did all the drawing?” Tease them if you know them a little better. “I’ve never seen someone eat as many vegetables as you. It’s a little scary haha. I’m not sure we can keep hanging out…” “Do you know what you’re doing for winter break? I thought someone said you were going skiing, but I was like, no way. He does not have the coordination to ski.”
