Dear Natalie,
[Why you’re writing them] I’m writing to you because I want to support other women going through some tough times. I’ve volunteered at several women’s correctional facilities and know that there aren’t a lot of outlets for people to talk about themselves or how they’re doing.
[Your time commitment] I aim to write to you at least once every two weeks (and when my workload lightens up a bit, probably once a week).
[Details about your life] So here’s a bit about me: I’m a high school algebra teacher and work part-time at an independent bookstore (some of my favorite books are Into the Wild, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, and Walden Two). I’m from Colorado Springs but moved to Denver a few years ago to be closer to my family, which is huge! Four sisters, three brothers, and fifteen nieces and nephews! My husband, Bill, and I plan to adopt in the next year or so.
[Open-ended questions] I’m excited to learn more about you. What is your family like? Do you have any favorite books or movies? How are you feeling today? Share as much or as little as you like!
I look forward to hearing from you,
Maria
