I think the best horror films for beginners are genre hybrids like horror comedies. Beetlejuice is relatively family friendly and comedic but does have some moments of horror, so that’s a great one to ease someone into horror movies, especially if they’re young and have never seen a horror film before. Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead are also good choices because the humor outweighs the horror, so it’s easier to deal with for someone who is scared easily. Older, black and white horror movies are also a good option for people who don’t know if they can handle gore in a movie. Psycho is a lot easier for someone to handle if they’re not comfortable with the sight of blood and grotesque imagery.
