  1. His first Pokémon will be a level 18 Spearow, so it's a good idea to have a Rock- or Electric-type Pokémon as the first in your party. After winning the battle, you must clear all of the trainers on Nugget Bridge, including the final man who offers you a position in Team Rocket.
  2. He will be a key part of the glitch later. Make sure to save your game at this point, just in case something with the glitch goes awry.

  3. This trainer (the Route 25 Youngster) will be standing between some trees, alone. Once you find this trainer, turn off your game and start from your last save point.
    • If you already know where to find the trainer with the level 17 Slowpoke, you can skip this step.
  4. Try looking in the grass around the Daycare. This Pokémon is a little difficult to catch, as it teleports away from battle as soon as it can. The only way to catch it is to throw a Pokéball and hope for the best.
    • If you have a Pokémon that can inflict Sleep, you can put the Abra to sleep before trying to catch it for a better chance at getting it.
  5. Walk up Nugget Bridge and save when you reach the end. Now is the time to approach the trainer who is hiding in the grass, who you have not battled before.
  6. Walk in front of where he is, far enough away so that he cannot see you, but will see you if you take one more step towards him. Save your game right here, because this next step can be tricky.
  7. You will take a step down toward the trainer, but the start menu will appear instead of the exclamation point above his head.
    • At this point, go into your Pokémon menu and use Abra's Teleport ability.
  8. Fight the Youngster with the level 17 Slowpoke, being sure to have him walk at least one step towards you to battle or the game will freeze.
    • Once you win the battle, teleport back to the Pokémon Center.
  9. Then, walk back up Nugget Bridge and your start menu will appear.
  10. Make sure you have a lot of Pokéballs on hand. If you saved your Master Ball, this is a great time to use it! [1]

FAQ

  1. 1
Can I catch Mew in Pokémon Yellow without using a glitch? No, you can no longer catch Mew in Pokémon Yellow (or any of the older Pokémon games ) without using a glitch. This is because Mew is almost always given out as an event Pokémon. To get a legit Mew without using a glitch, you would have had to attend a Pokémon event when Yellow was still brand new.
  2. 2
Can I use the Mew glitch on an emulator or the 3DS Virtual Console? Yes, the Mew glitch will work even if you're playing an emulated version of Pokémon Yellow.
  3. 3
Can I move the Mew I caught with this glitch to another game? Yes, but transporting your Mew will take a few extra steps:
    • You must have caught the Mew in the 3DS Virtual Console version of Pokémon Yellow. Other emulated versions of the game won't be able to connect to Poké Transporter.
    • You must use arbitrary code execution (a type of glitch) to change your glitched Mew's OT (original trainer) to "GF" and the OT trainer ID to "22796." [2]
      • Alternatively, you can name your trainer GF and use arbitrary code execution to change your trainer ID to "22796" to mimic the OT and OT ID of the event Mew that was distributed.
      • Using arbitrary code execution to change these values takes some work and a bit of technical know-how, but it's not impossible! If you want to try this glitch, check out this guide on Reddit. [3]

      • This glitch can be used to get other Pokemon besides Mew! For example, follow the method for the glitch, but fight a Pidgey. Instead of a Mew, a Nidoking will appear. However, getting the Nidoking can make items disappear.
      • If you already defeated the Slowpoke there’s still a chance to get Mew, but only if you haven't beaten the Cerulean City Gym. Just follow the steps but instead of beating the Slowpoke, beat the first trainer in the gym.
      • You don't need an Abra specifically, any Pokemon that knows teleport will do!
      • To get a level 100 Mew, use growl on the Slowpoke 6-7 times.
