Most recently in 2025, many people are unfollowing James Charles because of a controversy involving another content creator, Evan Johnson, and his ex-girlfriend, Kayla Malec. According to the allegations, James Charles has continued to support Johnson and give him a place to stay even though Malec has accused him of abuse. Some rumors suggest Charles and Johnson may also have a romantic relationship. Charles responded in a TikTok video saying that the allegations are false and that he supports Malec.

This isn't the first time James Charles has been under fire and cancelled. In 2019, a collaborator of Charles made a video accusing him of being disloyal and trying to seduce another person. In 2021, multiple TikTokers made allegations that Charles was grooming them, which led to businesses cutting ties with him and his channel getting demonetized.

Despite everything that's happened, James Charles still has a loyal and thriving fanbase that supports him.
