What are some other ways to say "Hi" in Spanish?

I'm just starting to learn and I already know "hola" as a basic way to say hello, but I'd love to learn some other greetings in Spanish too. What are some alternative ways to say hi? Any advice on the best responses in Spanish after someone says hello to me?

There are a lot of different ways to greet someone in Spanish, and they can be either formal or informal greetings. Some common formal greetings include:
  • Buenos dias: Good morning
  • Buenas tardes: Good afternoon
  • Buenas noches: Good night
  • ¡Qué gusto verlo!: Glad to see you!
  • ¿Cómo esta usted?: How are you?
Some common informal greetings include:
  • Saludos: Greetings
  • ¿Cómo estás?: How are you?
  • Tanto tiempo sin verte: Long time, no see
  • ¿Cómo te va?: How's it going?

You can say the Spanish version(s) of "Good Day". To say this, you can say one of the following:
–Buenos días: “Good morning”
–Buenas tardes: "Good afternoon"
–Buenas noches: "Good evening"

- Buenas (shortened way of saying "Buenos días/tardes/noches")
- Qué tal ("What's up?")
- Qué pasa (also "What's up?")
- Holi (cute way of saying hi)

When someone tells you hello, it's honestly polite just to say "Hola" backs. If they ask how you're doing, it's polite to say something like, "Bien, gracias. ¿Y tu?" which means, "I'm good, thanks. And you?" That way, you keep the conversation going.

Agree with all of the above, but sometimes it also depends on which country you're in or a native speaker is from. Like in Spain, it's pretty common to say "¿Cömo andas?" to say "How are you?" or "¿Qué hay tio?" which means "What's up, uncle?" between close friends.

In Mexico, a common way to say "What's up?" to your friends is "¿Quiubo?" You could also ask "how's it going?" by saying "¿Cómo andas?"
